01/24/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: For those who love big blockhead boys allow me to present Tony Micelli! Named after the fictional character from the old TV show ‘Who’s the Boss’, our Tony is gentle, calm, stocky, tail waggy and sweet. Likely housetrained he was delighted to be out to go potty, ignored other dogs we passed in the street including a ‘small’ on a retractable leash who came right up to us. He’ll need a harness and/or some leash training as he pulls hard on leash. Off leash in the backyard he loved playing with a plush toy, sat by me leaning into my legs as I took some notes, and joined me on the bench only after I invited him to snuggle with me and exchange kisses. Tony shows off his sit, takes treats super gently and is such an easy dog to spend time with. He holds up his head for an under the chin scratch, and buries his head in my chest for more closeness, clearly savoring the time. With other dogs off leash in his first group he greets and engages in brief bouncy play with the helper dog. He’s been fabulously taken care of, his coat clean and groomed and his weight perfect for his size. He’s like the sexy boy in school who doesn’t know how sexy he is! I loved my time with him and wish I had more. He’s going to make someone very happy – shouldn’t it be you?
01/23/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Tony Micelli walks calmly on leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Tony Micelli was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He was easy to handle when chewing on toys Tony Micelli did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that he can go to an Average home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Toy: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish toy to you. Playgroup Notes: When off leash with other dogs Tony Micelli greets and approaches the helper dog from behind as if to mount, but he does not. He will engage in a little bit of bouncy play when solicited.
01/22/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Tony Micelli greets dogs well, both male and female, but has thus far only interacted with female dogs. He engages in some bouncy play but with intent to mount, he is currently unaltered. He entered the care center as a stray, so his in-home behaviors with other dogs are unknown. Based on these observations the behavior department recommends a pre-adoption interaction before placing him into a home with other dogs. When off leash with other dogs Tony Micelli greets and approaches the helper dog from behind as if to mount, but he does not. He will engage in a little bit of bouncy play when solicited. 1/26: Tony Micelli is a bit sexually motivated but reciprocates with play when solicited. 1/28 update: Tony Micelli will attempt to mount when approached by a female. He does not engage in play when soliticed.
