PROFILE :
Basic Information: Tom is a 14 year old altered male Shih Tzu mix. He was given to owner from a family member. Tom has some health concerns documented in medical memos. Owner surrenders Tom due to pet health.
Social Life and Personality: Tom lived with three adults and been around children. Owner stated Tom is friendly/ outgoing towards strangers and everyone in the household. Tom is respectful towards other dogs and mainly sniff the. Owner stated Tom will chase after cats that are in a home. He’s mostly indoors and activity level is low. Owner describes Tom as friendly.
Behavior: Tom has never bitten or scratched anyone owner stated. He isn’t bothered someone touches his food or taking toys or treats away. He’s afraid of taking bath and will shake. When unfamiliar approaches the house or family member he isn’t bothered.
For a New Family to Know: Tom is trained to use the bathroom outdoors on his 15 minute walk. However he will use the bathroom indoors when he comes back in. He likes to stay in his favorite spot and doesn’t play with any toys. Tom use to know commands but doesn’t listen anymore owner stated. Tom eats wet and dry food called Pedigree.
Intake Behavior: Upon intake Tom was calm and relaxed during intake but whines and bark when owner left. He scanned negative for a microchip and allowed all handling.
SAFER: AVERAGE HOME
Tom previously lived with 3 adults and has been around children. The owner stated Tom is friendly towards strangers and family members in the house hold. The owner stated Tom will chase after cats that are in a home. It was reported by the owner Tom is house trained and has a low activity level.
At intake it was reported Tom was calm and relaxed, he allowed all handling. During SAFER Tom came into the assessment calm and relaxed, he was friendly and social towards the assessor. He allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Tom was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Tom was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Tom appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels he can be suitable for an “Average” adopter.
Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item.
Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft.
Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw.
Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw.
Toy 1: No interest.
Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, and lip neutral.
