PROFILE:
Basic information:
Toby is a 15 yr. old Am Pitbull mix. The Owner got him from a friend as a gift; he has owned Toby for over 9 yrs. The owner surrendered Toby because the owner moved to a place that does allow pets..
Socialization:
Around strangers Toby is friendly playful. Toby has not lived with children but he is relaxed and playful around children and adults he does not know. Toby had never lived with other pets so the owner has no idea how He would behave around them. Toby has never bitten anyone.
Behavior:
The owner stats that Toby is not bothered when some moves her food or treats while he is eating, when someone takes his toys away or when someone disturbs him while sleeping. Toby likes to be brushed and given bathes but has never had his nails trimmed. When an unfamiliar person or animal approaches a family member or his home he approaches them in a friendly manor. The owner does not know how Toby is around loud noises such as storms or fireworks.
For a new family to know:
The owner describes Toby as friendly, affectionate and playful with a low activity level. His favorite activity is to walk outside with his owner. In the home Toby tends to follow the owner around the house and is kept mainly indoors. Toby sleeps in the floor of the bedroom on a blanket. Toby was fed Pedigree dry and wet dog food three times a day. He is house trained and has never had an accident in the home, when outside he goes to the bathroom on or around trees and grass. Toby knows the commands “sit “and “stay”. For exercise Toby is used to brisk walks on the leash and twice a day and does not pull on the leash.
Behavior during intake:
Toby was relaxed with lose body, when approached by staff Toby would stiff but had trouble determining where the staff member was standing, we were able to scan (-), collar, picture and place in a dog kennel.
LVT intake : Any injuries: no; arthritic gait (stiff in hips and has difficulty bending); private DVM records from 12/16 indicating ear infection and perianal infetcion (swelling, suggested drain placement); perianal area is enlarged to date. Behavior: allowed all handling but painful, did not object to handling but whined, approached all in room for attention
DVM intake : Observed Behavior – seems a little anxious but well mannered, easy to handle and restrain
