BEHAVIOR :

Toby came into the shelter as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown.  Behavior during intake: Toby was calm and relaxed. He allowed all handling.

During SAFER Toby walked slowly into the assessment room he had a loose body posture when interacting with the assessor, he allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Toby was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resource portion of the assessment. Toby was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Toby appears to be sociable, and did not display any behavior concerns, so the department feels he can be suitable for an “Average” adopter.

Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions.

Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is down with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely open for at least a portion of the assessment item.

Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft.

Flank squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all.

Flank squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all.

Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog smells, then turns away.

Group Behavior

Toby was surrender as a stray so his pass behavior with dogs is unknown.

8/17-8/20: When off leash at the care center, Toby greets the other dog with a neutral body. When let into the pen, he exchanges a brief sniff before exploring his surroundings.
