07/24/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
07/24/16 13:26 BASIC INFO Tobie A1082466 is an approximately 11 year old American Pitbull Terrier Mix. He is being surrendered to the shelter because there is a smaller dog in the home that does not get along with him. Also, his owners are in the middle of finding housing for themselves and cannot have Tobie where they are staying now. Tobie was a gift to the owner when he was 3 months old. The only medical issue that Tobie has is that he throws up after eating. Owner stated that he has not been to a veterinarian for 3 years now. SOCIALZIATION Tobie is fearful of strangers, he takes a while to warm up to you. He does not play with adults. He lived with 2 small children and he was respectful and playful with them. He played gentle with them. Toby only lived with another dog for 2 days and the little dog nipped him in the hind legs, so now he does not get along with small dogs. Tobie has never bitten anybody. BEHAVIOR Tobie’s only behavior problem is that he has accidents everyday. He cannot hold his urine for long. Tobie allows you to take away his food bowl, water bowl, or toy away. He allows you to bathe him. If an unfamiliar approaches the doorway, he barks. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Toby is best described as friendly, affectionate and mellow. He has a low activity level. When home, he follows you around. He enjoys playing with ropes and balls. He has been kept mostly indoors and was fed Seniors &Plus brand dry food. He us house trained, but will have accidents daily. He listens to the command sit. Tobie pulls on the leash when walked. BEHAVIOR DURING INTAKE Tobie was tense and nervous, kept jumping on his owner, struggled to get into kennel.

Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Tobie was difficult to remove from his kennel he is extremely fearful in the back of the kennel showing teeth, growling and lunges at the rope. He did not show any social behavior. Once he came out from his kennel Tobie tries to avoid any interaction running away from the handler. He had a low body, hackles raised, ears back, tucked tail, showing his teeth and growling. Due to the behavior demonstrated in the shelter the behavior department believes that Tobie is not an appropriate candidate for SAFER Tobie was surrender to us. He was surrender to the shelter because there is a smaller dog in the home that does not get along with him. Tobie is fearful of strangers; he takes a while to warm up to you. He does not play with adults. He lived with 2 small children and he was respectful and playful with them. He played gentle with them. Toby only lived with another dog for 2 days and the little dog nipped him in the hind legs, so now he does not get along with small dogs. Tobie allows you to take away his food bowl, water bowl, or toy away”. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home.
