Medical Summary  Estimated age: 1-2yrs Microchip noted on Intake? no.  O/S due to unable to care for dog; reported to have forelimbs missing since birth.  Dog is Q/BARH ,  shy/timid, little restraint required for exam, allows all body part to be touched  T = NA P = wnl R = wnl BCS 5/9 EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean, no nasal discharge noted Oral Exam: Grade 0-1/4 dental dz; pronounced underbite PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: reported to be neutered; no palpable testicles MSI: amb x 2 (missing both forelimbs just proximal to elbows), skin free of parasites, no masses noted, reddish-brown staining of paws and forelimb stubs; dry flaky skin CNS: mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Rectal: not performed Assessment: congenital defect(s)-missing forelimbs, mild dermatitis (ruleout poor husbandry vs food allergy, atopy, etc.) Plan: Recommend rescue placement or with adopter willing to take on “special needs” dog. Dog should be fit for wheelchair. Prognosis: Good with appropriate care SURGERY: Already neutered

I met young Tobi at an adoption event yesterday. He was tenderly held on his volunteer’s lap. He looked so peaceful and happy. I knew I had to meet him in person and found him the same night in his kennel at the care center. Tobi seems to be used to be carried… Indeed, walks are a little strenuous as he is missing a large part of both front limbs. He was just born that way. But do not get me wrong… Tobi is a valiant little soldier, ready, willing and able….Once on the ground, he moves ahead sliding or hopping on his hinds like a kangaroo . He does not mark his territory but does his business outside his kennel. He loves to be held , petted and talked to. He is so cute, owns a silky coat, sparkling and clear chestnut eyes and mother of pearl teeth(he does have an underbite). Tobi is with us as his former master had no time for a pet or a special needs pet anymore. He comes with wonderful comments , though and I know that Tobi will give a lot of joy to a new owner versed  in the care of physically challenged dogs. I really fell in love with Tobi and I hope that you will too….
