A volunteer writes: ‘Tis the season to be jolly. To make merry. To be warm and…”TOASTY!” Sorry, I can’t help but blurt out his name the moment I spot that adorable face. Like the petite Pittie version of lovable E.T., Toasty has a face only a mother — and literally everyone else — could love. There’s a harsh chill in the air as we we head out for our walk, so before we go, I make sure to button up Toasty’s coat and tie his scarf extra tight. As I bend down to make one final knot, Toasty catches me off guard, “SLURRRP!” and gives me a quick Christmas kiss to start our journey right. We’re off in no time and Toasty right away shows me he’s not just about looks. He walks beautifully on leash, taking time to sniff each and every pine cone, and sporadically (and adorably) bursts into a hop, skip, and a jump when all the excitement becomes too much. His business done and free in a pen, Toasty now has but one thing on his mind: snuggles! Yes, our little alien positively vibrates with glee as he hops up to join me on a bench, and emits happy, joyful snorts as he huddles in extra close. I hug him right back, and, our two flannels pressed together, I feel nothing but love, and warmth, and Toasty. So forget the fireplace this winter. Toasty is waiting in adoptions at Manhattan’s ACC.
