02/04/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
02/04/16 13:20 Basic Info: Tiva is a 6 year old brown and white spayed female. The man who brought the dog to MACC got it from his friend about a year ago. He does not have the time to care for the dog anymore. He has not been to a vet for more than a year. Socialization: Tiva is okay with strangers for the most part. She is kind of shy at first but will warm up after a few minutes of getting familiar. She is playful and gentle with adults and kids alike. Tiva is comfortable with kids age 4 and up. She has never spent any significant time with others dogs or cats. Tiva would probably do best in a home where she was the only pet. Behavior History: This nice girl has never bitten another animal (human, canine or feline). Tiva is normally very well behaved if she is left home alone. She will bark and cry if there is a thunder storm or fireworks nearby. Tiva is a pretty easy going dog overall. She does not seem to mind her food bowl being touched while she eats, having a treat taken away or being asked to get off of the furniture. Tiva actually seems to enjoy bath time. She loves being rubbed down with the towel when it’s all over. Tiva likes to let her owner know when there is someone at the door. She will bark until she gets to meet them. For a New Family to Know: This is a friendly, sometimes shy but mostly mellow dog according to her former owner. She is a fairly active dog most of the time but she also loves to relax. When her owners are home with her she will follow close behind them. When it comes to toys Tiva loves almost anything she can get her paws on but squeaky toys and balls are her favorites. She is very well house trained but like most dogs, if she doesn’t get a chance to go out she might go indoors. Tiva is very smart. She already knows to “sit” and “stay” on command. She was accustomed to dry food in her last home. This is a great dog!
02/05/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Tiva is a middle aged gal of very mixed lineage. She is also a blank canvas, as we do not know much about her “former life”. Tiva was calm in her kennel and welcomed my leash with a smile. She accepted a neckpiece without fuss and walked nicely and calmly around the block although she did not enjoy the rain. Few small dogs were met on the way, causing no concern to her. Tiva did not mind being towelled upon return to the care center. To get her to sit was a challenge as she did not like my treats. She did not get frustrated by me insisting to do so, nor by the barking of the tiny dogs surrounding us. Tiva was not thrilled to reenter her den. I then sat with her at the edge of her kennel. We talked, I petted her and she kissed me. She is clearly mixed up, baffled at what she is doing in a new place like ours when she was a pet just yesterday. And well cared for she was, as Tiva looks healthy, is well nourished and wears a very well groomed coat. Tiva can be found in the Manhattan Care Center adoption quarters, as she passed her behavioral evaluation. A home sweet home and a loving human are her sole dream. Will you open your heart to a sweet damsel longing for love and to belong?
02/03/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Tiva walks calmly on leash. She was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body, low wag. Tiva was calm and relaxed during handling. She was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. Tiva was not interested in toys. Tiva did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that she can go to an Average home. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful but unresponsive when touched. Approaches the Assessor when the game ends. Dog is likely crouching, may have long lip or lip lick. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy 1: No interest.
02/03/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Tiva was uncomfortable with other dogs upon entering the care center, but over time, she has begun to warm up. She most recently has engaged in very soft play with a group of females. Her owner reports she came from a home with no other pets and has not interacted with another dog. Based on this information the behavior department recommends a pre-adoption interaction as well as allowing Tiva time to acclimate to her new surroundings before introducing her to a resident dog. When off leash with other dogs Tiva is a bit tense but allows the helper dog to sniff her. When re-approached she moves away then continues to ignore any interactions from the helper dogs. 2/6 update: Tiva allows brief greeting then walks away. When approached by a sexually motivated male she offers corrections that increas in intensity with each time the male nears her–first a small bark escalating up to a quick turn, bark and growl. 2/10 update: Tiva is more comfortable with a group of polite, social females. She will engage in a bit of soft play when solicited.
