03/12/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Get ready to awwww it up folks, Tito burrito is in da house! From his big, crusty eyes to that get-out-the-sunglasses dazzler of a smile, Tito is a little heartbreaker. To see his ‘before’ and ‘after’ grooming pics is to see a dog whose long journey back to health and happiness is starting with a single but vitally important step. Now that all his matted fur is gone, Tito’s looking and feeling a lot better, but he’s still a shy fella who prefers not to have his head touched and seems to feel more comfortable with women than men. When you don’t see so well the world is a frightening place, but Tito does still have some vision and can slowly negotiate outside walks and even stairs, taking care of his business quite promptly once we hit the yard. In a pen, he listens to my voice but doesn’t engage, and wanders aimlessly along the fence line, constantly searching for a way out. Yet if I want to leash him or rub his back he accepts my touch without any signs of aggression, only fear and confusion about where he is, what is happening and why. With proper vet care and a gentle, attentive family, I have no doubt this scared wee chap will regain his confidence and relearn (if he ever knew) what it means to be a safe and beloved pet. Already neutered and only 5 years old, Tito still has so much to look forward to in life…will you be the one to help him live it to the full?
