I came in the shelter as a OWNER SUR on 12/08/2016 from NY 10033, owner surrender reason stated was LLORDPRIVA.

12/08/16 21:13 Basic Information Tippy is a 4 year old spayed Jack Russell Terrier Chihuahua mix. She is being surrendered because her owner cannot keep her any longer due to landlord restrictions. Owner stated she adopted her 4 years ago from adopt-a-pet. Owner she has hyperthyroidism. Tippy last saw a vet in September of last year. Socialization Tippy growls and bares her teeth around strangers. She has spent time with kids of all ages. Owner stated she is relaxed around the kids. She plays in a gentle manner with kids and adults. She spent time with a 6 year old Pug and a 2 year old large dog. Owner stated she would ignore the Pug but was very playful with the large dog. She played in a somewhat rough manner with the large dog. She lived with two adult cats. She was tolerant of these cats. Owner stated a week ago while at a friend’s house Tippy lunged at a cat that lived at this house. Tippy has never bitten a person. On 11/29/16 she bit a Golden Retriever. This bite did not break skin. Tippy is not bothered by loud or sudden noises. She does not guard food, treats of any kind, or toys. Owner has never trimmed her nails. She will bark if someone knocks on the door. Owner stated she tolerates all kinds of physical handling. She is not bothered if someone unfamiliar approaches the owner. For a New Family to Know Tippy is described as affectionate, playful, and anxious with a medium activity level. She will follow her owner around when home. She likes to play with stuffed and squeaky toys. She likes to play chase tug, and fetch. She was kept mostly indoors and slept anywhere. She was fed dry dog food. Owner gave her 1 ½ cup daily. She is house-trained and prefers to go potty on grass. She is well behaved when left home alone. She has never been left in a yard. She will do well in a crate for 8 hours or so. She knows commands sit, stay, come, and down. For exercise owner takes her ow brisk walks on a leash. She will pull lightly on a leash and its never walked off the leash. Behavior during Intake Tippy did not tolerate handling. She attempted to bite the rope. She growled and showed teeth when approached by counselor.

Behavior toward children: Relaxed Behavior toward dogs: Very playful Behavior toward cats: Tolerant towards the cats she lived with; She did lunge at a cat while visiting a friend’s house FG/RG: None reported Bite history: She has bitten another dog but the bite did not break skin. Housetrained: Yes Energy level/descriptors: Affectionate, playful, and anxious with a medium activity level Other notes: Tippy will growl and bare teeth at strangers. Upon intake Tippy growled and showed teeth to the counselor. She did not tolerate handling. SAFER ASSESSMENT: Toy: 1. Minimal interest, dog sniffs toy. Summary: Tippy bared teeth when the Assessor was attempting to collar her. She should be placed with a New Hope partner who is able to use positive reinforcement training to assess her behavior in a stable environment. PLAYGROUP: Summary MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:12/9/16 During her initial exam Tippy appeared to be very tense and nervous, she showed teeth and attempted to snap. ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_No children (under 13) _X_Place with a New Hope partner (Tippy would benefit best from placement with a New Hope rescue group who can further assess this behavior in a stable environment) Potential challenges: _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression (Tippy has been observed to snap when startled. It is recommended that Tippy be allowed a proper time to decompress to aid in acclimating to a new environment. Force-free, reward based training is advised when introducing/exposing Tippy to new and unfamiliar situations.)
