08/06/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
08/06/17 09:08 Limited profile, stray. Tippi displayed a low body at times with the counselor, keeping her tail tucked between her legs, but when the counselor verbalized a positive statement (good girl) she perked up and would wag her tail high. Counselor gave her wet dog food and she ate it within seconds, a hungry girl, and did not have any guarding behavior when the counselor would put the bowl down or went to pick it up. She sat on command and took treats for reward with a gentle manner out of the counselors hand. She allowed counselor to remove her collar but had a low body and was slightly wary of handling. Would use caution when approaching as she would flinch when counselor raised her hand (when grabbing food or adjusting leash) but never growled or snapped at her.
08/11/2017 WEB MEMO
A staff member writes: Oh my love bug Tippi, you are so small and stubby, gray and white, my favorite two colors on a dog. You surprise me every day, I mean that in a good way, when I first met Tippi, she was very stand offish and when I would approach her kennel, she would start barking. As a couple of days passed by, Tippi started to come to the front of her kennel and would have a loose, wiggly body and a wagging tail. When I finally decided to take his beautiful girl out, she walked so gracefully, as if she knew she was a princess. Once inside the play yard, Tippi stood right beside me and followed me everywhere I went, it was the cutest thing. She likes to get her rubbies and butt scratchies, she smiles with every touch. Tippi also likes to pose for the camera, and let me tell you she owns the photoshoot lol. She loves to dress up for each occasion. Tippi would be great with an experienced dog owner, all she needs is a little room and I’m sure a special person could make that happen. Come see this beautiful princess at BACC !
08/08/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: None 8/6/17 Unaltered female, stray Previously lived with: Unknown SAFER ASSESSMENT: 8/8/17 Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body. Squeeze 1/ 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy: 1. No interest. Summary: during the handling assessment Tippi was social and relaxed with the assessor. No concerns were seen. PLAYGROUP: 8/7 Tippi was brought into the Care Center as a stray so her previous behavior around other dogs are unknown. Summary: When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Tippi greets a novel male dog with a soft body. She attempts to solicit play from him with high energy bounces. INTAKE BEHAVIOR 8/6/17 At intake Tippi was initially nervous with her tail tucked, but quickly relaxed when the counselor spoke softly to her. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 8/7/17 Tippi presents as owner surrender. Friendly, seeks attention, allows all handling with minimal restraint. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Tippi so we cannot be certain of her behavior in a home environment. Tippi displayed medium energy and movement throughout assessment. Tippi will need daily mental and physical activity to keep her engaged and exercised.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with the behaviors noted below) Potential challenges: _X_Anxiety/destructive behavior: We have no known history, but Tippi appears anxious in her kennel and has been destroying items (toys, bedding). We recommend that Tippi be left with engaging, long-lasting chews and toys when left alone, that the environment be managed to keep inappropriate items out of her reach, and that she be provided with appropriate chew and play toys. _X_Kennel presence/barrier frustration: Outside her kennel Tippi is highly social, but while in kennel she destroys items (toys, bedding) and barks and lunges toward the gate. This appears to be attention-seeking as the behavior stops when her visitor interacts. While we cannot be certain if this behavior will appear in any other contexts, in highly emotionally charged or stressful environments Tippi may show behavior similar to what she is currently demonstrating in her kennel. We recommend potential adopters be comfortable managing this behavior.
08/07/2017 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Tippi solicits high energy play with both male and female dogs. She can be pushy at time, but tolerates corrections. Tippi was brought into the Care Center as a stray so her previous behavior around other dogs is unknown. The Behavior Department recommends that Tippi be placed in a home with a resident dog that is tolerant and match her high energy play style. All introductions should be done slowly and under supervision. 8/7: Tippi greets a novel male dog with a soft body. She attempts to solicit play from him with high energy bounces. 8/8: Tippi attempts to engage in high energy chase play with a novel female dog. She becomes pushy with her solicitations, and repeatedly mounts the other dog. She is slow to respond to handler interruptions. 8/9: Tippi is tolerant of a female dog’s inappropriate corrections-jumping on her back and grumbling-, and a sexually motivated male’s mounting. She attempts to engage in high energy play with male and female dogs. 8/10-12: Due to Tippi’s tolerance, she is utilized as a greeter. She engages in running chase play with both male and female dogs, and display flirtatious behavior-offering her rear- with novel males.
