09/21/16 15:48 BASIC INFORMATION Tiny is a American pit mix with lab that is 10 years old. The owner received Tiny has a gift when he was just a puppy. Tiny has been part of the family since he was a puppy. The owner is surrendering Tiny due to behavior. Tiny has no known illness. SOCIALIZATION When stranger come over Tiny hard barks and becomes tense. He guards the owner and growls. He is escorted or kept in the back yard when companion arrives. He has lived around children ages 8 and up but due to his guarding his monitored around children. He keeps to himself and does not allow to be petted by the children. He has never been around cats. On walks he barks and growls at other dogs. BEHAVIOR Tiny allows having his food bowl touch by the owner, removing toy from his mouth. He allow to be bathed and have his coat brushed. Around strangers he hard barks and lunges, guarding the owner. He has never had a bite history but has incidence where his reactive and tries to lung. Tiny barks when his nails a trimmed. He is house trained but is not back because he has access to the back yard. FOR NEW FAMILIES TO KNOW Tiny is described as independent, pushy and mellow. Tiny spend most of the time in the back yard throughout the summer. He barks at the stray animals in the neighborhood and sleeps. His favorite toys are balls and chew bones. He sleeps outside in his dog house. He knows the command sit, stay and come (In Spanish). BEHAVIOR DURING INTAKE Tiny during intake was constantly barking and body was tense. He did not allow being collared by counselor. But with the assistance of the owner he was scanned, photographed and collared.

Tiny previously lived with adults and children ages 8 and up. The owner stated when strangers come over Tiny hard barks and becomes tense, he guards the owner and growls. The owner mentioned Tiny lived around children ages 8 and up but due to his guarding his monitored around children, he keeps to himself and does not allow to be petted by the children. It was reported by the owner on walks he barks and growls at other dogs. The owner describes Tiny as independent, pushy, mellow and is house trained. According to the owner Tiny has no bite history but has been reactive and lunges. At intake it was reported Tiny was tense and would bark, he allowed all handling by the owner no the counselor. During SAFER Tiny came into the assessment room anxious and whining, he was a bit social but uncomfortable. He allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Tiny was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Tiny was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Due to some concerns stated from the previous owner, the behavior department feels he can be suitable for an experience adopter with no children and recommend a slow introduction. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is between his legs, body a bit tense with his mouth open. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft but a bit distracted. Squeeze 1: 3. Dog closes mouth, becomes a bit tense. Flank squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all. Flank squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all. Toy 1: No interest. Dog-dog: When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Tiny greets displaying neutral body language. He is social, staying close to the female dog and checking in on her. He is slightly sexually motivated, licking her genital area, but does not attempt to mount. Update 9/27: Since arriving at the Care Center, Tiny has been lunging, growling, hard barking, and snapping at the front of the kennel in adoptions. He has been responding infrequently to drive-by treating and continues lunging and muzzle punching the front of the kennel when approached. Due to this, the Behavior Department does not feel that Tiny is a suitable candidate for the public adoptions room for safety concerns. We recommend placement be sought as soon as possible for Tiny’s well-being.

According to Tiny’s previous owner, n walks Tiny barks and growls at other dogs. 9/22: When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Tiny greets displaying neutral body language. He is social, staying close to the female dog and checking in on her. He is slightly sexually motivated, licking her genital area, but does not attempt to mount. 9/24: Tiny displays neutral body language when greeting a male dog. He spends most of his time exploring the pen but occasionally checks in on the other dog.
