Timbo
Hello, my name is Timbo. My animal id is #18173. I am a desexed male gray dog at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 5 years 3 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 07-Feb-2018, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- homeless.
Based on previous behavior noted and the severity of Timbo’s response towards another dog during a playgroup session, the behavior department believes he would benefit best from placement with a rescue partner who can follow up on his dog-to-dog behavior outside of the shelter environment. We recommend exercising safe and appropriate management; force-free, reward based training only is advised.
Let’s get to know each other a bit more…
A staff member writes:Hear yee hear yee! Here is the gorgeous, ambitious Timbo! Timbo is a giant, snuggle bug, who is a little rough around the edges, but nothing that a little patience and love can’t fix. Timbo is very friendly and sweet with his human friends. He solicits attention and engages in play when taken out to the pen. Timbo loves to play with his stuffed animals and tennis balls, although he may make a tear in the toy, he still comes and gifts you with the remains. Timbo is a very silly boy, he loves to sit on his humans lap, as he receives butt scratchies! He also is very treat motivated, he knows commands such as sit and give paw. Timbo is a high energy level dog, that will need daily walks and a good amount of mental stimulation. He would do best in a single-pet home, where he can get all the love and attention, he solely needs and deserves. Overall, Timbo is an amazing companion, who loves people, loves to play and love to cuddle!

The Behavior Department recommends that he be socialized in a more controlled setting until his behavior towards other dogs can be further addressed. Reward-based, force-free training can be utilized to help Timbo associate dogs with things he enjoys like toys or treats. New Hope Only: Based on the severity of Timbo’s response towards another dog during a playgroup session, the behavior department believes he would benefit best from placement with a rescue partner who can follow up on his dog-to-dog behavior outside of the shelter environment. We recommend exercising safe and appropriate management; force-free, reward based training only is advised.
Potential challenges: : Fearful
Potential challenges comments:: Fearful:Though observed to be human-social, Timbo may need time to warm up to the handler as he initially presents as a fearful dog, avoiding contact, shying away from direct touch.
