08/16/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
08/16/17 19:33 Basic Information: Tigger is an 8 year old, neutered, small dog. The previous owner got Tigger from ACC 1 year ago but unfortunately decided that she had to return Tigger due to his behavior. Socialization: Tigger is very fearful of strangers. He will try to bite if someone gets too close to him while he is with his previous owner. He will charge at the door if a stranger comes to his house. The previous owner has never had him interact with children or cats in fear that Tigger will be aggressive towards them. He doesn’t play with other adults besides owner and when around other dogs he is scared and will try to hide. Behavior: Previous owner felt that Tigger was very hard too control. She claimed that Tigger was very anxious and would be fearfully aggressive towards other people when she was around. When he sees another dog in the street while owner was walking him he would start barking at other dog. Previous owner had trained Tigger to wait until she put the food down for him to eat it but never tried to remove it from him while he was eating because he would growl and try to snap at her when she did. It was the same thing with treats and toys. He isn’t bothered when being picked up by owner or disturbed while sleeping. He enjoys baths but is not ok with being brushed. He will try to bite. She never trimmed his nails so previous owner is unsure on how he will react. He barks when someone unfamiliar comes towards the house or towards them. For a new family to know: Tigger is a fearful, anxious, shy, excitable dog who has a very high energy level. Previous owner loved how smart and complex Tigger was with her. His favorite game to play with her was hide and seek. When owner was home he followed his owner around the house. He liked to play by himself with his favorite ball. He was mostly and indoor dog with 2-3 walks per day. He slept in his kennel at night. He is mostly house trained and the owner had trained him to pee in the tub between walks. When left alone at home he was well behaved. He knew all commands such as, sit, stay, come, roll over, lay down, and crawl to name a few. He ate home cooked vegan food made by his previous owner and his favorite treats are chicken jerky and apples. Upon intake, Tigger was pacing the room and whining. He kept jumping up on his owner. While in the medical intake room, he allowed all handling and jumped up on vet tech for affection and gave kisses on face.

PLAYGROUP: Tigger’s previous caretakers have described him as “fearful” around other dogs he has met in the past. The behavior department feels that Tigger may be most comfortable as the only resident dog in a home at this time.
INTAKE BEHAVIOR Upon intake, Tigger was pacing the room and whining. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: During initial medical exam, Tigger initially allowed minimal handling. ENERGY LEVEL: Previous owners of Tigger have reported that he is playful in the home, with a low-medium level of activity. RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_No children (under 13): Due to potential resource guarding reported by his previous caretakers (growling when approached while in possession of food or toys), we recommend an adult only home. _X_Single-pet home/Recommend no dog parks: See PLAYGROUP _X_Place with a New Hope partner: The severity of Tigger’s behavior in previous homes appear to be beyond what an average adopter can manage without additional training and behavior modification guidance. We recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can work with Tigger to modify these behaviors, and can provide Tigger and his new adopter or foster with additional support. Potential challenges: _X_Resource guarding: Potential resource guarding was seen in Tigger’s previous homes. It has been reported that he may growl when in possession of food or toys. For this reason, we advise against ever removing items from Tigger’s possession without safely trading for an item or greater or equal value. Guidance from a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended to aid in safely managing/modifying this behavior in a new home environment. _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: Previous caretakers of Tigger have been reported that he reacts fearfully around strangers, and may attempt to nip when uncomfortable with handling. Guidance from a professional trainer/behaviorist is recommended to assess behavior after decompression in a new home environment. Force-free, reward based training is advised when introducing or exposing Tigger to new and unfamiliar situations. _X_Anxiety: Former caretakers of Tigger have reported anxious behavior in the home. It is unknown if this behavior will occur in any future home environment, but positive reinforcement and reward based training should be utilized to work with any concerns that do appear. _X_On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration: Tigger has been observed by former caretakers to react to other dogs on leash, lunging towards them, and barking. He may need positive reinforcement, reward based training to teach him to look at you rather than other dogs and novel stimuli that may startle him.
