07/19/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Due to the behavior demonstrated in the shelter the behavior department believes that Thumper is not an appropriate candidate for SAFER at this time. During medical exam Thumper was tolerant of some handling but attempted to bite the technician. In the kennel Thumper can be seen growling, lunging and trying to bite when approaching his kennel. A SAFER assessment will not be conducted due to safety and stress level concerns. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a New Hope partner who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time. Dog-dog: Thumper was collared today. He greets the other dogs appropriately but mostly keeps to himself as he wanders in a group of male and female dogs.
07/11/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Thumper was brought in as a stray with another dog, but his behavior around other dogs is unknown. 7/11: Thumper was too fearful to safely remove from his kennel. We will make an attempt tomorrow. 7/12, 7/16: Thumper was able to be removed from his kennel today. A collar could not be placed on him so a slip leash was used instead. He greets the other dogs appropriately but mostly keeps to himself as he wanders in a group of male and female dogs. 7/13: A collar could not be placed on him. Due to his high stress level when taking the leash off him yesterday, a leash was not placed on him and he was not allowed into the pen. 7/17-19: Thumper was collared today. He greets the other dogs appropriately but mostly keeps to himself as he wanders in a group of male and female dogs.
