06/29/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Our Thumbalina is not a tiny girl that lives in a walnut shell, but rather a big-hearted girl that is currently living in a cage. She has not been dealt a winning hand — she has multiple masses, including a very large one that feels like she has a boulder in her belly. But, as it goes, she has has the sweetest kind of eyes, the ones that tell stories and her tail is always wagging. She is happy and grateful to go for walks, has great leash manners, gives me her undivided attention (and she is the one that deserves to be on the receiving end of such doting!), and seems housebroken. She LOVES treats, any kind (but makes you want to give her only the best!), takes them gently and knows “sit.” She was found by a person walking their dog and hasn’t shown any concerning behavior towards others while in our care. She’ll put all of the weight of her head on my lap when I pet her — she is truly a sweetheart. Little Thumbalina’s story ends when she meets a tiny flower-fairy prince and gains wings so that she can travel from flower to flower with him. We hope that some version of a flower-fairy prince will find our big-hearted Thumbalina and will travel from day to day with her (giving her lots of love and exploring new cuisine along the way!) until she gains her wings.
06/28/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Thumbalina came to us as a stray; she has no known owner information. Upon intake it was noted Thumbalina was very friendly and sweet, alert and allowed all handling. During SAFER Thumbalina had a loose body posture when interacting with the assessor, she allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Thumbalina was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resource portion of the assessment. Thumbalina was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Thumbalina appears to be sociable, and did not display any behavior concerns, so the department feels she can be suitable for a “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, a bit distracted. Squeeze 1:1 Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed . Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed . Toy: 1. No interest. Dog-Dog:When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Thumbalina greets the other dog with soft body language. She spends most of her time wandering in the yard.
