08/25/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Thor has lived with a number of adults and with children of all ages. He is noted to be friendly with strangers, and relaxed and playful with children. He also lived with a small dog for several months, and was relaxed and tolerant. He has not been exposed to cats. He is described as having a high activity level. Thor was social with the admissions counselor at intake, but has shown some possible barrier reactivity and some sensitivity to handling while housed in the care center. He was assertive when meeting another large dog in playgroup, muzzle punching the gate and then jumping on the dog. Upon entering the SAFER room, Thor was overly aroused and aloof, he showed no social behavior and would not settle. Because he was in such a high state of arousal, unable to de-escalate, the behavior team skipped the handling portion of the assessment due to safety concern. During the resources portion of the assessment, Thor showed no interest as he was fairly distracted with his surroundings. Because of the low threshold for arousal displayed in the care center, the behavior department believes placement with New Hope rescue partner would be most beneficial at this time. It is recommended that Thor be allowed a proper period of decompression before introduction/exposure to new and unfamiliar situations. Force-free, reward based training is advised to aide in the acclimation to a new environment.
08/20/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
According to Thor’s previous owner, Thor has lived with a small breed dog for a few months and is described as relaxed and tolerant. 8/20: When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Thor displays slightly stiff body language as he greets the other dog. He becomes hyper-motived, barking and muzzle punching the gate. He is given a few minutes to decompress and his leash is held as he greets the other dog. He immediately jumps on her back and the session is ended.
