08/07/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
08/07/16 11:28 Basic Info: Thor A1084514 is a 5yr old male white & gray AMPBT mix who was given to the owner as a gift from a family member 5yrs ago & is being surrendered due to a child in the home being afraid of him. Thor hasn’t been seen by a veterinarian and currently has no known health issues. Socialization: Around strangers Thor is very friendly/outgoing. He’s spent time with a 1yr old who is afraid of him due to his activity level and size. Thor would try & interact with him exuberantly, playfully & somewhat rough (he doesn’t know his strength) and was the same with the adult, a female Pit & a cat (who would beat him up at times) in the home. Thor has never bitten/scratched any person or animal. Behavior: Thor is a very hyper & excited boy. During storms/fireworks he’ll bark/hide. Thor loves bath time and being in the water. He hasn’t had his nails trimmed or had his food/food bowl, toys/treats touched/moved. If someone approaches the home/family member he’ll excitedly bark & jump on them to greet them & play. For A New Family to Know: Thor is very friendly, affectionate, very playful, confident, & excitable with a very high activity level. The owner likes how friendly/sweet he is. Thor enjoys playing with ball, squeaky, rope toys and games of fetch & tug. He’s mostly an indoor only dog who sleeps on linen in the apt hallway & is walked 2-4x a day where he pulls strongly on his leash. Thor eats dry dog Pedigree food 2x a day and likes any kind of dog treats. Thor’s known commands (in Spanish) are “sit” & “go home” which means go inside the apartment. Intake Behavior: Thor had a super loose & super wiggly body. He is very strong and allowed all handling. He allowed to be scanned (-) & taken pictures of. Thor was placed into a kennel before I was able to collar him. I was told he hopped in on his own.
08/10/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Behold the mighty Thor and stand in wonder! With his classic good looks and over-the-top enthusiasm for life, this handsome hunk doesn’t need a giant hammer to make an impression and he establishes himself as a go-getter from the get-go; nosing his kennel door open, dashing for the exit and peeing an absolute river as soon as we step outside. Surrendered to our care because his energetic play style was too much for the toddler of the house, Thor still comes with excellent family dog credentials and we’re told he has no guarding issues, knows how to sit on command (indeed he does!), is friendly with strangers, loves taking a bath and has lived in relaxed harmony with a Pittie sister and even a cat. Just don’t tell the other dogs the cat would ‘beat him up at times’, a thunder god has to keep his rep up, y’know? Affectionate, silly, confident, lovable but most of all Energetic with a capital E, Thor isn’t a dog for the faint of heart (or the weak of arm!) as he pulls strongly on leash and likes to share his joy via jumpy hugs and rough’n’tumble play. His own heart is firmly in the right place though and when asked to name their favorite thing about him, his previous owner said they liked ‘how sweet he is’. So what’s the ideal recipe for a happy and healthy Thor? Take a little leash training, add a regular walking schedule, plenty of doggie play dates and some complex toys to keep his mind as active as his body and I guarantee he will thank you with a lifetime of love. Thor’s at our Manhattan Care Center, ready and eagerly waiting to shine as the golden boy of a dog-savvy new family. Ask to meet him today!
08/09/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Thor pulls hard on the leash. He was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up. Thor was overexcited during handling, jumping up, and was hard to position, but showed no aggression. He was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. Thor took the toy with a soft body language. Thor was surrendered to us. According to his previous owner Thor is very friendly, affectionate, very playful, confident, & excitable with a very high activity level. Around strangers Thor is very friendly and outgoing. He’s spent time with a 1yr old that is afraid of him due to his activity level and size. Thor would try & interact with him exuberantly, playfully & somewhat rough and was the same with the adult, a female dog & a cat. Thor is an active dog he need a significant amount of exercise and mental stimulation. The behavior department feels that he can go to an experience home. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. His body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1/2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. playgroup Notes: When off leash with other dogs, Thor is initially playful and boisterous while interacting with the female greeter, then quickly becomes intensely and persistantly sexually motivated.
08/08/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
8/8: When off leash with other dogs, Thor is initially playful and boisterous while interacting with the female greeter, then quickly becomes intensely and persistantly sexually motivated. The behavior team feels Thor should be given time to decompress in a new home before following up on behavior around dogs. His former owner does not describe any previous behavior around dogs, so this is unknown.
