07/01/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
07/01/16 14:28 Basic Information: Thor is a 1 year old unneutered male South African Boerboel that has no past or current medical issues that the owner is aware of. Owner has had Thor for 3 months. Thor was adopted and returned 3 days later because his owner wasn’t able to train a large, active dog. The notes below are from his first owner. Socialization: According to the owner, around strangers thor is shy for a few minutes but once he is comfortable he is exhuberant with adults. Owner does not have small children in the home but did state that Thor loves to jump on people out of excitement so owner would always prevent him interacting with small children as not to hurt them. Thor has lived with another dog that owner stated was his father and was relaxed and playful with him. Thor has never bit another animal or person while in the care of the owner. Behavior: Thor is not bothered by having someone take away his food, toys or treats taken away, having his nails trimmed, having his coat brushed, being restrained/held and when unfamiliar people would approach the owner. Thor will bark and growl when unfamiliar people would approach owners yard. He is friendly when someone would push him off the furniture. Thor is afraid of being given a bath. For a New Family to Know: Thor is described as friendly, affectionate, and excitable with a medium activity level. When in the home, Thor liked to follow the owner around and be in the same room as the owner. Thor was kept both indoors and outdoors and is house-trained. When Thor was left alone in the home, he would destroy household items. When owner would leave him alone in the yard, he would bark, dig and destroy things. Owner did state that Thor has bad separation anxiety. Thor has been crate trained but does not do well in a crate. For exercise, owner would take Thor on slow walks on the leash, off leash walks and go running/jogging with Thor. When on the leash, Thor pulls lightly. Owner stated that if Thor is taken off leash, he would stay close to the owners side. Thor knows the commands sit, come and down. When it comes to toys, Thor likes to play with balls, stuffed animals, squeaky toys, and chew toys/bones. He likes to play fetch, chase, wrestling and tug. Owner fed Thor dry food only 2x a day but brand was not specified. Owner stated that a big home with a big backyard would be best for Thor.

06/23/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Thor came into our center as an owner surrender citing separation anxiety and destroying items in the home. Owner reports Thor is shy at first around strangers but will warm up, once comfortable he is playful and exuberant with adults. Owner purposely did not introduce Thor to young children due to his exuberant play, so behavior around young children is unknown. It is reported Thor lived with another similarly sized dog, his father, relaxed and playful together. Owner states Thor is not bothered by having someone take away his food, toys or treats, having his nails trimmed, having his coat brushed, being restrained/held and when unfamiliar people would approach the owner. However, Thor will bark and growl when unfamiliar people would approach owners yard. Owner reports Thor is fearful of taking a bath. He is reportedly housetrained to go outside. Owner reports Thor would destroy household items when left alone in the home. If alone in the yard, Thor would bark and dig. For exercise, owner reports Thor would walk on leash and also go running/jogging with owner. He is described as friendly and affectionate. Thor was cautious and alert upon entering SAFER assessment room, but approached assessor slowly/curiously. He allowed his head to be cupped in assessors hands, relaxed. Thor stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, body soft, mouth open, ears and tail neutral. He followed slowly at the end of the leash for Tag game, a bit cautious and aware of assessor’s every move, did not approach at end of game. Thor did not pull his paw back on both Squeeze attempts. He showed minimal interest in Toy, though this may be due to environment as owner reports he likes to play with balls, stuffed animals, squeaky toys, and chew toys/bones. He reportedly likes to play fetch, chase, wrestling and tug. Thor approached the helper dog at an appropriate pace, tail at spine level, relaxed. The Behavior Team feels Thor would do best with an Experienced adopter.Due to him not having experience with children, any young children in the home should have an in depth interaction before considering adoption. Thor would do best with a slow approach/slow introduction, preferably with treats, may benefit from obedience classes to learn proper crate training to aid in decreasing anxiety when alone. Look: 1 eyes averted Sensitivity: 1 accepts touch Tag: 2 fearful, unresponsive to touch, does not approach at end Squeeze 1/2: 1 No response Toy: 1 Min dog: 1 relaxed
