Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Thomas came into our center as a stray so behaviors in the home are unknown. During intake, Thomas displayed high energy and movement with a loose body, jumping, mouthing rope and attempting to mouth staff. He pulled on leash for his relief walk. Thomas displayed high energy and movement upon entering the SAFER assessment room, soft body, open mouth pant, exploring the entire room. He allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, body soft, tail wagging. Thomas leaned into assessor during Sensitivity item, lip lick, tail wag. He became overly aroused at the onset of Tag, jumping up and mouthing, but was redirected easily and settled at end of game. He did not pull his paw back on both Squeeze attempts. Thomas kept a firm hold on Toy, loose body, but required a treat to trade up and relinquish the Toy. When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Thomas greets the other dog displaying loose and wiggly body language. He engages in high energy play, body slamming and jumping over the other dog. The Behavior Team feels Thomas would do best with an Experienced adopter. He may benefit from obedience classes to learn leash manners as well as not to mouth or jump. Thomas will require daily mental and physical stimulation in the forms of daily walks, runs, exercise, play to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm. He may benefit from another resident dog that matches his play style, as well as walks by adults only. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back.
