01/02/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: None Unaltered male, stray SAFER ASSESSMENT: 1/2/2017 Summary: Theodore is hard barking, lunging, and biting leash when attempting to take out of kennel. Due to safety concerns and to reduce Theodore’s level of stress at our care center, he is not a candidate for a SAFER assessment at this time. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Proximity Sensitive: These dogs have had a poor history of social experience with other dogs or could be extremely fearful in the shelter environment. They are socially shy and may exhibit fearful body posturing (tucked tail, head low, snarling etc), defensive posturing (lunging, barking, snarling etc.) or physically avoid/ignore other dogs. They will emit warning signals to the other dog to back away but if they are forced to interact they may snap. PLAYGROUP: 12/30: When off leash with other dogs Theodore ignores interaction and stays near the handlers. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:12-30-16 Theodore growled and snapped during his initial medical exam, would not allow handling. RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_Place with a New Hope partner: Theodore has not allowed handling in the care center. We recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary force-free, reward-based training to address his underlying anxieties before placement into a permanent home. Potential challenges: _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: Theodore has escalated to lunging, growling, snapping, and biting at the leash in the care center. We have not been able to run a handling assessment so we cannot be certain how Theodore responds to handling.
12/30/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR

He will sniff dogs that walk past him. 1/4: Theodore allows calm approach. He otherwise keeps to himself in one spot. 1/6: Theodore will sniff dogs that approach but will otherwise explore the yard.
