11/01/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Hunk Alert! There is simply no other way to describe him — he’s a hunk, and would likely be voted Prom King if we were still in school. Like the famous Theodores before him, Theodore Roosevelt, and Theodore from Alvin and the Chipmunks, our Theodore is a combination of all good things: stately, fun, playful, affectionate, smart and enchanting. Theo seems to be housetrained, and while he pulls a bit on the leash, is manageable. He’s been gorgeously taken care of. Everything about him is physically perfect — coat, weight, nails. His tan eyes match his coat, adding to his allure, and when he shows off his sit and paw (with some coaxing), I melt. He wasn’t interested in either of my treats, and when I offered him a toy he preferred to join me on the bench for some cuddle time. A little feather from the toy stuck on his nose, and I won’t embarrass him by publishing a picture of that, but it sure was cute! Theodore gets excited when he sees other dogs on the street, and may need to learn better manners in his approach, both on the street and in actual play. With a tail that never stops wagging, our hunky hunk Theo is ready to call you friend. Won’t you come meet him today? Another volunteer writes: What can I say about my main squeeze, Theodore? Well, I think I’ll let a few people speak for the big, cuddly man. Here is a sampling of things I heard when I decided to spend my Tuesday night with Theodore: “Oh, you’re walking Theodore? He’s the best!” “Is that your dog? He’s so handsome!” “Wow, all this boy wants is cuddles.” Clearly, I’m a little biased, but Theodore is pretty wonderful. He has soft, soft caramel-colored fur and the sweetest eyes. He walks well, and though he was excited to see other dogs on the street, he never barked or growled at any of them. He knows “sit” and “paw”, which was one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen. Mostly, though, Theodore is a big mush. He kept looking back to make I was still there when we walked, and when we got back to the shelter, he put his head in my lap and settled in for lots and lots of pets and head rubs and love. Needless to say, I fell hard for this guy. A gentle giant, Theodore is looking for his forever home where he can be someone’s best, furry friend. Come down and meet Theodore!
11/02/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: N/A Unaltered, Stray SAFER ASSESSMENT: 11/1/2016 Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog shoulder rubs upon positioning, high energy and movement. Once positioned, leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor Squeeze 1 / 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog sniffs, then turns away. Summary: Theodore displayed no concern during his behavior assessment. May do best with daily mental and physical stimulation. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Selective: These dogs can succeed with certain other dogs, but may be more selective or picky. They may dislike certain ‘types’ of dogs or styles of dog play so they may require extra supervision when interacting with other dogs. PLAYGROUP: When introduced off leash to a female dog in the care center, Theodore barrels into the pen, bounding toward the greeter. He jumps on top of the greeter dog and frantically attempts to mount. He does not cease when offered correction by the other dog, or when handlers attempt to use interrupters. His leash is picked up and he is physically walked out of the pen. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: During his initial medical examination, Theodore readily allowed all handling without issue. ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: Average (Suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience)
10/31/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Theodore initially exhibited extreme sexual motivation and needed to be physically removed from the helper dog and taken out of the pen. Over mulitple interactions he becomes less intense and begins to engage in some play with males and females, but ultimately still attempts to mount. He arrived as a stray, so any in-home behaviors are unknown. The behavior department recommends slow introductions with any potential future resident dogs. 10/31: When introduced off leash to a female dog in the care center, Theodore barrels into the pen, bounding toward the greeter. He jumps on top of the greeter dog and frantically attempts to mount. He does not cease when offered correction by the other dog, or when handlers attempt to use interrupters. His leash is picked up and he is physically walked out of the pen. 11/8-9: Theodore solicits rough play from male and female dogs, though does attempt to frequently mount both sexes in between.
