08/07/16 11:13 Basic information Theodore is a 6 year old male shih tzu Yorkie mix with no known medical conditions. Owners have had Theodore For 6 years and are surrendering because of land lord issues. Socializations Theodore has not lived with young children but has lived with a teenager the age of 14 when he was younger. Theodore Was tolerant of the teenager. Theodore doesn’t play with adults much and would rather be show affection and pet. Theodore has not been socialized with cats or other dogs. Around strangers Theodore is aggressive and will growl and lunge at people who pass him. Theodore has bitten once (not in the last 10 days). When Theodore sees other dogs outside he will also bark and growl at them. Behavior Theodore doesn’t like having his food bowl touched while eating or having toys and treats taken away. If you attempt to take anything away from him he will growl and try to bite. Theodore is afraid of getting bathes and will try to get out of the tub. Theodore isn’t bothered when being held or restrained. When someone unfamiliar approaches the house Theodore will growl and has to be placed in another room when the guest comes in. Theodore is afraid of storms and fireworks and will become panicked and hide. For the new family to know Theodore was described as excitable, fearful and anxious with a medium activity level. Theodore enjoys playing with balls and stuffed animals. Theodore enjoys playing fetch. When home with Theodore he likes to be in the same room as you. Theodore is mostly house trained but has started to urinate when excited or scared over the last 6 months. Theodore also started to become destructive in the home with things he finds on the floor over the last 6 months such as paper and bags. When no one is home Theodore is kept in the gated off kitchen and does well for up to 8 hours there. Theodore knows the commands sit, come and paw. For exercise Theodore goes on brisk walks but pulls hard on the leash. Theodore is use to going to the bathroom on grass. Theodore eats dry food twice a day and is use to the brand Blue. Previous owner believes Theodore will do well in an adult home that has time to help him with his behaviors Behavior during intake Theodore was very tense during the intake and growled as soon as he saw the counselor. Theodore kept growling at any noise in the center and did not allow any handling. In the Kennel Theodore was calm and quiet.

Theodore previously lived with adults and a teenager age 14 years old. The owner stated Theodore was tolerant of the teenager and doesn’t play with adults much and would rather be shown affection. The owner mention around strangers Theodore is reactive and will growl and lunge at people who pass him. It was reported by the owner Theodore does not allow anyone to touch his food bowl or having his toys and treats taking away, he will growl and try to bit. The owner describes Theodore as excitable, fearful and anxious. The owner also stated Theodore can be destructive in the house with items he sees on the floor such as paper and bags. According to the owner Theodore has a previous bit history. The owner had been yelling at Theodore after he destroyed something in the house, she went to go pick him up to place him in another room. Theodore was growling and showing his teeth before he bit the owner and immediately let go. The owner had a puncture wound on her hand between her knuckle and thumb. At intake it was reported Theodore was very tense and growled at the counselor, he did not allow any handling. During SAFER Theodore came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, he was friendly and social towards the assessor. He allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Theodore joins the game during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Theodore was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Due to some concerns and Theodore previous bit history, In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a New Hope partner who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play ends. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish toy to you.
