Have you ever seen anything as cute and naughty as Thales.. His philosophy is to enjoy life like a puppy that age should do…True, he was found as a stray..Not a great way to start one’s journey and be happy. … A good samaritan kept him overnight and Thales made the best of it by sticking his face in a green birthday cake that was in the house. This is why he came with a sticky muzzle and body all smeared with green icing…He must have eaten quite a bit of cake as ..his waste came out green too…A silly little boy… Thales will let you know that he wants out. He is a determined pup. He is not scared and quite outgoing, tail up and walking assured in the street. I love his face, all freckled and his big ears expressing his various states of mind… He is petite and so smartly dressed in his cow print red and cream coat. He does his business as soon as out in the yard and can sit on command. He knows that to get what he wants, he has to obey certain rules. Thales is quite smart for a youngster this age. He loves treats and is quite playful. He will mouth when you push him a little over the edge but responds well to :NO.. Tag is a game he really likes…Thales is only 7 month old, a very young man with a lot of charm, lots of smarts and an already well developped personality. He is adorable, endearing and like any youngster, will need training to make of him a stellar adult you will be proud of and blessed to have by your side. Thales is at the Manhattan Care Center. Come and meet him soon.
BEHAVIOR:
Thales came into our center after a member of the public found him as a stray so behaviors in the home are unknown. During intake, he wagged his tail when approached, allowed all handling. Thales pulled on leash for his relief walk. He was calm and friendly upon entering SAFER assessment room. He allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands during Look item, eyes averted. Thales leaned away from the touch during Sensitivity item, body soft, tail wag. He ran along playfully during Tag game, jumped up playfully at end of game. Thales pulled his paw back on first paw Squeeze, did not pull back on second Squeeze, mouthed assessor’s hand without pressure at end of item. Thales playfully engaged with Toy, took away loose and wiggly. When off leash with other dogs, Thale engages in rough puppy play with males and females. The Behavior Team feels Thales would do well with an Average adopter. He will benefit from puppy obedience classes to learn leash manners as well as not to mouth and basic puppy obedience.
Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans away from the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item.
Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog might jump on Assessor once play begins.
Squeeze 1: 2. Dog pulls back paw
Squeeze 2: 2. Dog does not pull back paw, gently places his open mouth over the Assessor’s hand without applying pressure.
Toy 1: 2. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold. His body is between you and the toy, and he is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness.
Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Thale engages in rough puppy play with males and females.
6/17 update: Thales continues to engage in play and also mount during.
