SAFE 12/30/16

Manhattan Center

My name is THADDEUS. My Animal ID # is A1099807.
I am a male tan labrador retr mix. The shelter thinks I am about 6 YEARS old.

I came in the shelter as a STRAY on 12/15/2016 from NY 10456, owner surrender reason stated was STRAY.

12/15/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
12/15/16 18:15 He appeared friendly and playful with the children and people in the park but growled at one of the officers when handling and putting into car. Thaddeus has a lot of energy and officers could barely hold him, he allowed all handling but freezes with whale eye when hands go above his head.

12/17/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: What a dude! What a noble beast! What a giant, goofball of a Lab! Thaddeus is absolutely stunning; with a shiny coat, an ideal weight, and some very pearly gnashers (yes, we looked, but only because a kiss was incoming), he has clearly been well cared for. And judging by how stoically he waited to relieve himself outside of his kennel, he has had some mighty fine training. He was absolutely cool around the other dogs we encountered in the park and an all around sweet boy to be with. It is worth mentioning that Thaddeus seems to engage the rule of opposition when it comes to walking on a leash, so it can be a bit like being pulled beyond Rudolph, and maybe ten other reindeer to boot. Still, what a fun ride!

12/18/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: N/A Intact, Stray Bite History: When attempting to adjust his collar and then pet, Thaddeus became uncomfortable and delivered a bite onto his handler with no appropriate warning; breaking skin, resulting in one puncture wound. SAFER ASSESSMENT: 12/18/16 Summary: Thaddeus was brought into the assessment room and displayed social behavior, seeking attention from handlers. When a handler went to adjust his collar and then attempt to pet him on the head, he quickly snarled and bit her finger, drawing blood. The assessment was not conducted. PLAYGROUP: When greeting female dogs through a barrier Thaddeus has a loose body, wagging tail and whines. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 12/16/16 During his initial medical examination, Thaddeus allowed all handling though became mouthy at times. ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_No children (under 13) _X_Place with a New Hope partner (Due to the concerning behavior displayed in the care centers, Thaddeus may benefit best from placement with a New Hope rescue partner who can further assess his behavior once in a stable environment. Force-free, reward based training is advised when introducing or exposing him to new and unfamiliar situations.) Potential challenges: _X_Mouthiness/Poor bite inhibition _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression (Thaddeus has displayed a low threshold for aggression, rapidly escalating when made uncomfortable with no warning signals. Appropriate and safe management is advised when attempting to work on and modify and any behavior. We cannot with certainty predict how this may translate into a home environment and recommend exercising caution when handling as Thaddeus poses a high bite risk.)

12/16/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
