09/04/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Let me tell you about my perfect companion: he’s gentle and calm, tail waggy and friendly, housetrained, low key, with a perfect amount of gentle energy, great on leash, enjoys treats and takes them gently, likes being petted and never stops wagging his tail. And that describes my new buddy, Champ! With a gentle spirit, he’s so quiet in his kennel, is leashed easily and makes soft eye contact as a thank you as we walk out the door. He’s been beautifully taken care of, and I would never guess that he’s a “senior”, as everything about him speaks of a dog who has been a cherished family member. He’s so easy to be with, a good friend who’s never judgmental, is ready to do whatever it is that you want to do, is respectful of both other dogs and people, and just wants to be by your side. I fell head over heels in love with this gentle boy, and although I can’t make him mine, you, lucky adopter, can. He is everything he should be except home with his person, but you can change that. Ask to meet Champ today.
Another volunteer writes: A champion pet in every way possible, no dog was ever more aptly named than our sweet Champ and the lucky person who adopts him is definitely going home a winner! He’s handsome and oh so charming, a true gentleman in any situation. From his great leash walking skills, amazing house training and calm, friendly attitude toward other pups to his affectionate and loving snuggles with his human friends, Champ can do no wrong. Every day he waits patiently for my attention and no matter how busy I am, I can never resist taking him for a stroll because time spent with Champ is like medicine for the soul, a soothing yet uplifting balm that puts the world to rights, always. Do do yourself a favor and ask to meet the Champ, I guarantee he’ll win your heart today and you’ll be winning the doggie lottery for life.
08/26/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Texas walks calmly on leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Texas followed the assessor at the end of the leash with a calm and relaxed body language when playing tag. He took the toy away but had soft body language. Texas did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that he can go to an Average home. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, ears back, wagging tail. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Playgroup notes: When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Texas is soft-bodied and offers polite greeting.
08/25/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Texas is soft-bodied and offers polite greeting. He has a history of biting another dogs five years ago (on the street, but no further details are known), but his most recent arrival to the care center was as a stray, so any in-home behaviors with other dogs are unknown. The behavior department recommends a pre-adoption interaction before placing him into a home with other dogs as well as slow, structured introductions to any resident dogs.
