08/27/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Terra has swept me off my feet! She was a little nervous and timid when she first arrived (her person was moving into a nursing home so she ended up here), but quickly warmed up and is such a sweetheart. She is easy to handle, is super treat motivated (she knows “sit,” “paw,” and “down”) and seems housebroken. She’ll briefly play fetch with me, but has some skin issues and her feet seem a little tender so we don’t play too hard. She’s lived harmoniously with five (!!!) cats, but might not be well socialized with other dogs. She loves to be pet, gives kisses, and solicits attention from her cage. She has the kindest eyes and most wonderful subtle smile…what a lovely face and lovely gal to come home to every day! Please give her a chance to sweep you off your feet, too…she’d love to meet you at Brooklyn ACC!
08/25/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
The client surrendering Terra stated his neighbor is an elderly woman who was recently hospitalized; he was caring for her pets for the last few weeks while she was away.He described Terra as friendly towards strangers, and will greet new people with a loose body posture. Terra has reportedly lived in the home with five cats; she is described as relaxed and affectionate towards the cats. Terra seems to be reactive toward other dogs during her walks; Terra will hard bark, with her hackles raised. Terra will pull and attempt to get off leash. During SAFER Terra came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, she had a loose body posture when interacting with the assessor. Terra was mellow and avoided the assessor at introduction, but quickly warmed up. She allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Terra was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resource portion of the assessment. Terra was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Terra appears to be sociable and showed no behavior concerns, the department feels she can be suitable for an “Average” adopter; a slow approach is advised. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is wagging with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1/2:1 Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy: 1. No interest. Playgroup:When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Terra is very nervous and shut down.
