08/13/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Teddy came into the shelter as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are limited due to a short time spent with the client. Behavior during intake: Teddy allowed all handling. The client stated Teddy is shy around strangers but then warms up after a few minutes; Teddy has spent time with children from infants to teens according to the client. Teddy is said to be gentle when he plays with both children and adults. Teddy appears to be terrified during storms or fireworks. He is afraid but did not describe behavior or body language when his food bowl is touched, and when treats, objects or toys are being taken away but did not describe behavior or body language. During SAFER Teddy entered the assessment room calm and relaxed he had a loose body posture when interacting with the assessor, he allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Teddy was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resource portion of the assessment. Teddy was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Teddy appears to be sociable, and did not display any behavior concerns, so the department feels can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy 1: No interest.
