09/29/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Tebo loves toys, is very playful, and LOVES butt scratches. The last time he and I hung out, he climbed into my lap and tried to burrow his head into me for maximum cuddling. Tebo knows how to sit for treats (what a charmer!), and although he seemed shy when he first came to us as a stray, he’s learning more and more how to play nicely with other dogs. Tebo is around a year old and has the energy to match, approaching other dogs to play and run– he would do great in a home that’s ready to give him some basic puppy training and help him burn up that energy! Come see this sweetheart today.
09/20/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Tebo came into the shelter as a stray, so his past behaviors in home are unknown. Behavior during intake: Tebo was friendly but a bit nervous, he allowed all handling. During SAFER Tebo was friendly and he had a loose body posture when interacting with the assessor, he allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Tebo was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resource portion of the assessment. Tebo was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Tebo appears to be sociable; however he did display some behavior concerns during his playgroup session. Upon introduction into the pen, Tebo presented a stiff body and was focused on the female in the pen; he had to be muzzled for safety precaution. Tebo did not respond to the handler’s interruptions and needed to be physically removed, and the playgroup session ended. Due to this behavior, the department feels he can be suitable for an “Experienced” adopter. We recommend a thorough dog-dog interaction. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is wagging with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is open for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Squeeze 1: 1 Dog gently pulls back his paw. Dog licks hand. Squeeze 2:1 Dog gently pulls back his paw. Dog licks hand. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish toy to you. Playgroup:When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Tebo displays stiff body language when greeting the novel female dog. He becomes very focused on her and a muzzle is placed on him before he is allowed to enter the pen. Once in the pen, Tebo immediately mounts the female and persists after handler interruptions. The handlers need to physically remove him and the session is ended.
09/15/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Tebo was surrendered as a stray so his past behavior around dogs is unknown. 9/15: When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Tebo displays stiff body language when greeting the novel female dog. He becomes very focused on her and a muzzle is placed on him before he is allowed to enter the pen. Once in the pen, Tebo immediately mounts the female and persists after handler interruptions. The handlers need to physically remove him and the session is ended. 9/22: When greeting a male dog, Tebo displays high energy, motivated behavior, as he focuses on the other dog and play bows. Once in the pen, Tebo attempts to solicit high energy play, body slamming into the male dog. He continually solicits play, ignoring the other dog’s body language that he does not wish to engage. Tebo is eventually able to explore the pen. 9/27: Tebo displays high energy, play bowing at the gate. He attempts to solicit high energy play, but is able to wander in the pen when play is not solicited. Relative to his previous play group sessions, his play style was smoother today.
