02/23/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
Taz is a 2 year old neutered LH Chihuahua/Cavalier King Charles Spaniel mix. His owner adopted him from another shelter 2 weeks ago and is surrendering him because he bites people. Taz was born w/ a dislocated kneecap but this hasn’t bothered him. For his 1st week in his new home, Taz was friendly w/ strangers and remains friendly w/ his owner’s family/friends who he had already met. He’s since gradually become reactive to strangers. His owner thinks he’s protecting her. He lunges at, growls, and tries to bite new people who try to touch him (adults and children). His owner is usually able to keep him from biting people by keeping him close to her. On 2/10, he bit a stranger (an adult male) on the hand, drawing blood, when he approached and per him on the head. His owner had told the stranger not to pet him, but he approached him and reached straight to his head without allowing him to sniff him first. Taz was w/ his owner on his leash in an indoor public place. She thinks he was protecting her. Taz had also nipped an adult male family member’s arm while he was petting the other dog at home (no broken skin). He plays somewhat rough w/ people. Taz lived w/ a large male dog and a medium-sized male puppy and was relaxed, playful, tolerant, and played somewhat rough w/ him. He ignores cats outside. Taz didn’t mind when his owner took his food/treat/toys. She explained that she picks up and plays with his dog food to show it to him and encourage him to eat. However, the shelter she adopted him from reported that he had bit his previous owners while guarding food. Taz enjoys being held. He doesn’t mind when someone moves him off furniture, brushes him, or wakes him up. He’s nervous but tolerant during baths. He growls, lunges, and tries to bite new people who come into his home or approach his owner. Taz’s family describes him as friendly, affectionate, playful, and medium energy. He follows her everywhere. He plays fetch, chase, and tug and likes balls, and stuffed, chew, and rope toys. He lived inside and slept on a blanket. He ate dry grain-free dog food and enjoyed various grain-free dog treats. He’s housetrained, potties anywhere outside as well as on wee-wee pads inside, and doesn’t have accidents. Taz is well-behaved while home alone inside, in the garage, or in the yard with a 7′ wooden fence. He did well traveling in his crate. He knows sit, down, shake, high five, and dance. He went on walks and pulls lightly on his leash.

02/24/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Taz was difficult to remove from his kennel showing teeth, growling. Once he was removed from his kennel he walks calmly on leash. Taz was stiff and did not show social behavior during the assessment. He was uncomfortable when the assessor tries to collar him he wrinkles his muzzle to expose his front teeth and air snapped. The behavior team decided to skip the handling part of the assessment for safety reasons. During the resources Taz was not interested in toys. He does not approach other dog, attempts to exit. His owner adopted him from another shelter 2 weeks ago and is surrendering him because of behavior issues. According to the owner Taz lunge, growls, and tries to bite new people who try to touch him (adults and children). His owner is usually able to keep him from biting people by keeping him close to her. On 2/10, he bit a stranger (an adult male) on the hand, drawing blood, when he approached and per him on the head. She thinks he was protecting her. Taz didn’t mind when his owner took his food, treat or toys”. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home. Toy 1: No interest. Dog-dog: 2. Dog does not approach the helper dog. Turns body to side in relation to other dog, or exits. Helper: A1065725
