I came in the shelter as a OWNER SUR on 07/01/2016 from NY 10453, owner surrender reason stated was NO TIME.

7/1/16 18:59 Basic information: Taylor is a 4 yr. old Maltese mix. The Owner has had Taylor for since birth. The owner surrendered Taylor because the owner no longer has time for him. Taylor has never been taken to a vet. Socialization: Around strangers Taylor very shy and fearful. Taylor has never been around children. Taylor has lived with two small dogs and a cat, Taylor usually does no interact with them. Taylor has never bitten anyone. Behavior: The owner stats that Taylor is not bothered when some moves his food or treats while he is eating, when someone takes his toys away or when someone disturbs him while sleeping. Taylor does not like to be brushed and given bathes and has never had his nails trimmed. When an unfamiliar person or animal approaches a family member or his home he barks and growls at them (in some cases he may try to nip the person if the come to close). The owner does not know how Taylor is around loud noises such as storms or fireworks. For a new family to know: The owner describes Taylor as shy and fearful with a medium activity level. His favorite activity is to sleep most of the day. In the home Taylor tends to follow the owner around the house and is kept mainly indoors. Taylor sleeps in the floor of the bedroom on a blanket. Taylor was fed Pedigree dry dog food twice times a day. He is house trained and has never had an accident in the home, when outside he goes to the bathroom on or around trees and grass. For exercise Nemo is used to brisk walks on the leash and once a day and does not pull on the leash. Behavior during intake: Taylor was very tense with stiff body, when approached by staff Taylor growled at the staff member and attempted to hide, owner was able to assist us, scanned (-), collared and placing in dog kennel.

Taylor was difficult to remove from his kennel showing teeth, growling and lunges at the rope. He did not show any social behavior. Once he was out of the kennel he extremely fearful, tucked tail, growling, grabbing at the leash and snapping at the handler. The behavior team decided to place him back in his kennel Taylor did not allow any touch or handling. Taylor was surrender to us. According to his previous owner Taylor is shy and fearful with a medium activity level. Around strangers Taylor is very shy and fearful. Taylor has never been around children. Taylor has lived with two small dogs and a cat, Taylor usually does no interact with them. The owner stats that Taylor is not bothered when some moves his food or treats while he is eating, when someone takes his toys away”. Due to the behavior demonstrated in the shelter the behavior department believes that Diesel is not an appropriate candidate for SAFER. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home.
