Tay Tay
Hello, my name is Tay Tay . My animal id is #13145. I am a male chestnut dog at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 3 years 4 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a returns on 14-Dec-2017, with the surrender reason stated as not a fit – too big.
Tay Tay was placed at risk due to behavior concerns; Due to the combination of concerns seen in both his previous home environments in addition to the shelter environment, the behavior department believes Tay Tay would succeed best if placed with a rescue partner who can further assess his behavior in a more stable home environment.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: NEW HOPE ONLY
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Recommend no dog parks,Place with a New Hope partner
Recommendations comments:: No children Tay reportedly resource guards with food and may snap. Very young children may not know to respect his boundaries, for these reasons we advise against a home with children at this time. No dog parks: We also recommend that Tay Tay not be brought to dog parks due to the over-aroused, pushy behavior he has shown during playgroup and because he does not respond to other dogs’ cues. Please see playgroup notes for more details. Place with a New Hope partner: Due to the combination of concerns seen in both his previous home environments in addition to the shelter environment, the behavior department believes Tay Tay would succeed best if placed with a rescue partner who can further assess his behavior in a more stable home environment.
Potential challenges: : Resource guarding,Low threshold for arousal
Potential challenges comments:: Resource guarding: Tay Tay’s previous owner notes that he may growl when his food bowl is approached. We recommend that Tay Tay be left along while eating, and that food guarding behavior modification steps (available at ASPCApro.org) be utilized if this behavior is problematic in his future home. Nothing should ever be taken directly out of Tay Tay’s mouth, and any time something is removed he should be rewarded with a high value treat or toy. He should be taught the “drop” cue and trade-up games. Low threshold for arousal: Tay Tay has been reported to become easily overstimulated in his previous home environment. In a heightened state of arousal, Tay Tay appears to direct his frustration onto handlers/care takers by snapping (three separate times reported in the home). We recommend daily mental and physical stimulation as a way for Tay Tay to direct his energy and enthusiasm.
