01/10/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Tawny is a cute old gal with a bad hair day. No fault of her own, of course…In fact, she is really dreaming for you to take her on and bring her to a grooming salon. Tawny is adorable although her care has been poor. Her grooming is one thing and the shape of her teeth is another. She has the greatest appetite but chewing is not easy..She is willing, ready and able, though, a great trooper and she makes do with what ever she has. Tawny is waiting at her door, waiting to be picked up, carried, loved, fed and walked…A real pet!!! She is adorable, sociable, friendly and a very good lap dog. She walks beautifully on the leash and does stairs perfectly well. She seems totally fine with other dogs met, even the big ones. Little Tawny is at the Manhattan Care Center, already spayed and dreaming to be very soon your cherished little girl.
01/10/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Tawny came into our center after a member of the public found her tied to a pole. She allowed all handling during intake. Tawny walked nicely for her relief walk, no pulling. She allowed her head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, lip lick, body neutral. Tawny stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, body relaxed, open mouth. She followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, but spun towards hand on last pass. Tawny settled easily at end of game. She was uncomfortable with Squeeze, lip lick, did not pull paw back, but closed mouth and became tense/stiff on second attempt. She briefly appeared interested in Toy, but quickly lost interest. Tawny approached the helper dog at an appropriate pace, ears and tail neutral, slight lip lick. The Behavior Team feels Tawny would do well with an Experienced adopter. She may benefit initially from a slow approach and a home that is a calm, quiet, structured, environment so she can relax and know what to expect. Once comfortable, Tawny appeared friendly and playful. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Lip lick. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture, open mouth pant. Tag: 2. Follows at end of leash, spins towards hand last pass. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are back. Squeeze 2: 3. Dog closes mouth, becomes stiff. Toy 1. Brief interest. Dog – dog 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, lip lick
