03/07/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
03/07/16 18:47 Tarragon was found in a stranger’s backyard and brought to ACC by police, who report that he’s friendly. He appears thin and dirty and his tail was bleeding at the tip. Tarragon had a super loose, wiggly body, fast wagging tail, and open mouth while I pet him, scanned him (-), collared him, positioned him for pictures, and switched his leashes. He often jumped up on me and mounted my leg. He took the toy I offered him. While I pet him, he rolled onto his back with a fast wagging tail.
03/13/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: It was a spicy kind of a day at ACC when Tarragon joined us, thus his fun name. And while he can be a bit ‘spicy’, he’s mostly calm, low key and affectionate, thrilled to meet new people, sooooooo happy to go for a walk to go potty, and although he seems to want to meet every dog we pass on our walk, navigates past them easily. He’s always smiling and wagging his tail, his nose looks like he met a cat who may not have wanted to make friends, and he has excess fur on his neck through which you simply want to schmush your hands (I did it and loved it!). He’s great on leash, didn’t mind being tethered for photos and posed nicely, takes treats softly, and rarely stops smiling or wagging his tail. Tarragon was found wandering in someone’s yard, the police were called, and when they brought him in they told us how friendly and sweet he is. During the intake process he allowed all petting and rolled on his back for a belly rub. Can we get an ‘awwwwwwwwwww’? Our behavior team feels that he’ll do best with an experienced adopter and if that’s you, Tarragon is patiently waiting to meet you. He’s awesome, I love him, and guarantee that you will too. 03/09/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Tarragon pulls hard on the leash. He was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up. He was overexcited during handling, jumping up, and was hard to position, but showed no aggression. Tarragon followed the assessor at the end of the leash with a calm and relaxed body language when playing tag with assessor. He shows minimal interest with toys. Tarragon appears to be a high-energy dog that will likely do best with an adopter prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for his energy. The behavior department feels that he can go to an experienced adopter who can follow up on this behavior. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. His body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Minimal interest. Dog may smell or lick toy, then turn away. Playgroup Notes: When off leash with other dogs, Tarragon is sexually motivated, but does not slow down when corrected by the female helper.
03/08/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Tarragon is typically sexually motivated when interacting with females, but with solicitious/social females he does engage in rough play. He has yet to be introduced to a male and may become stiff and bark when greeting them through the gate. He arrived at the care center as a stray, so any in-home behaviors with other dogs is unknown. The behavior department recommneds that Tarragon have a pre-adoption interaction before being placed into a home with other dogs. When off leash with other dogs, Tarragon is sexually motivated, but does not slow down when corrected by the female helper. 3/9 update: Tarragon is a bit anxious and attempts to mount the other dog (likely due to anxiety). 3/15 update: Tarragon continues to display the above. 3/16 update: Tarragon engages in play with females, with ultimate intent to mount.
