A volunteer writes: Shy and sweet, Miss Tannum nudges my hand when I stop petting her…please don’t stop, I really like that… Tannum is easily leashed from her kennel, happy to be outside and going potty the moment we hit the street. She pulls hard on the leash, a bit anxious at finding herself in this new strange place, and seems to have been someone’s beloved companion until now. Her weight is perfect for her petite size, she’s affectionate in her shy way, her coat is clean and groomed and she takes treats gently. In the park, she poses nicely for some photos, wants to chase squirrels (sorry, Tannum), and gives me sweet kisses when we cuddle. Each time I stop petting, her she shyly and softly leans into my hand asking for more. I don’t know her back story, but I like to imagine her story moving forward as I picture her cuddled close to her new person, softly nudging her person’s hand to continue stroking her. What a blissful happy ending. Let’s make it come true.
08/03/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Tannum pulls a bit on the leash. She was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up. Tannum was excited during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. She was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. Tannum was not interested in toys. Tannum needs a significant amount of exercise, mental stimulation. She was a bit uncomfortable around other dogs during her playgroup interaction. The behavior department feels that she may do best with an experienced adopter who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. Her body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) she is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1/2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy 1. No interest. Playgroup Notes: When off leash with other dogs, Tannum is uncomfortable and actively avoids. She offers correction when approached to closely. She is anxious eventually and begins to seek exit.
08/02/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
8/2: When off leash with other dogs, Tannum is uncomfortable and actively avoids. She offers correction when approached to closely. She is anxious eventually and begins to seek exit. Tannum arrived as a stray, so in-home behavior and overall history around dogs is unknown. The behavior team feels that Tannum would be most comfortable as the only resident dog in a home at this time, until her behavior around dogs can be followed up on outside the care center.
