08/11/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Adorable and so photogenic, the worst photographer could not get a bad picture of Tannie, a small butterscotch-colour puppy with big velvety eyes and wing-like ears. Tannie came to us with a young adult, Cowwie, named after his cow-print coat. Tannie loves his “little dogs” bed. He is tiny, a little bit on the thin side, and fits perfectly. Although calm in his kennel, Tannie is eager to go for a walk and be in company. He would fly out of his den…so, be careful. He pulls on the leash, barks in excitement when he sees other dogs but plays gently in playgroup with his peers. He is a little overwhelmed when other pooches are too pushy. Tannie is ready when it is time to rest. He comes on the lap and snuggles tightly against my chest, doing what puppies know best…love and be loved. Tannie is at the Manhattan Care Center, a lovely, lively, needy and pretty puppy who so wants a human or family to belong to and a home to call his own. Let’s make his wish come true.
08/04/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Tannie came to the care center on 8/3/2016. During intake he was tolerant and allowed all handling. On his relief walk he pulled a bit. Upon entering the assessment room, he was friendly and social. His body was neutral, with ears back and tail low during Look and he held the assessor’s gaze. He leaned into the assessor during Sensitivity with ears back, tail low, and lip long. He became playful during Tag, jumping, lip licking, and barking. For Squeeze he had no response on both attempts. He took Toy and would relinquish it. The Behavior Team recommends that Tannie be placed in an Average home. He may benefit initially from a slow approach and introduction so that he can warm up at his own pace. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with tail low and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor with open mouth, tail low, ears back. Tag: 2. Dog is playful, jumps on assessor, barks at end. Squeeze 1/2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish toy to you.
08/03/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
8/3: When off leash with other dogs, Tannie engages in soft play. He is tolerant of rougher play but will not reciprocate in the same exuberant style. Tannie arrived as a stray, so it is unknown how his behavior around dogs in the care center will exactly translate into a home setting. However, the behavior team feels that Tannie could be placed with another social, playful dog pending slow proper introduction.
