She loves to explore and greet every new person in the yard. We’re all friends here, says Tahiti, there are no strangers in my life. Kisses, tail wags, hanging out in my lap before running off to greet another new person. She’s a social butterfly, fun and interested. KNOWN HISTORY: None 8/31/17 Unaltered Female, Stray SAFER ASSESSMENT: 9/3/17 Look: 1. Dog jumps up to lick the Assessor’s face with tail wagging, ears back and eyes averted. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, closed mouth. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game, bit distracted. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog quickly pulls back. Squeeze 2: 2. Dog quickly pulls back. Toy: 1. No interest. Summary: Tahiti displayed no concerning behaviors on her assessment and was social throughout. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Tahiti displayed highly concerning behavior during interaction with dogs in the care center. Tahiti rushed in after the helper dog with a tense body, T’s the shoulders and growls loudly in the dog’s face, continuing to growl and change positions when the other dog does not react. Due to the intensity of the behavior observed, in addition to reactivity on leash (barking, lunging), the behavior department strongly advises against housing Tahiti with other dogs. Caution and vigililance should be exercised when walking Tahitti through areas of high dog traffic. See RECOMMENDATIONS or GROUP BEHAVIOR for more. INTAKE BEHAVIOR: Upon intake, Tahiti was growling at dogs in the lobby. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 9/1/17 During her initial medical exam, Tahiti was timid but quickly warmed up. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Tahiti so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. However, she is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep her engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct her energy and enthusiasm. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with behaviors outlined below) _X_Single-pet home Potential challenges: X_On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration: Tahiti has been observed to react to other dogs on leash, lunging towards them, barking and growling. Tahiti may need positive reinforcement, reward based training to teach her to look at you rather than other dogs. We recommend a front clip harness or head halter to help manage this behavior.

9/1: Tahiti growls at the greeter dog through the fence and is muzzled for an off-leash interaction. Once off leash with the greeter dog she briefly sniffs, then T’s the shoulders and growls. When the other dog does not react, she changes position and growls in the face of the other dog. The behavior department strongly advises against homing Tahiti with other dogs.
