05/02/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: My first thought upon meeting Taffy was that someone would be coming quickly to reclaim their beloved (and stunning) lost dog. He does occasionally do a little anxious whining (maybe he was also expecting a quick reunion…he howls sometimes in his cage too!), but is incredibly social, wiggly, affectionate, playful, sweet…the whole nine yards! He seems housebroken, and once he’s relieved himself he walks nicely on leash. He is very food motivated, knows “sit” and takes treats nicely from my hand. He’s definitely no stranger to fetch: he has no problem trading the ball for a treat, can easily hold two balls in his mouth at once, and eventually sprawls out to tear them up. He is a ham when it comes to attention and his tail wags feverishly at any sign of human presence — voice, touch, even just looking at him gets it going. He loves to be petted, wants to say “hi” to everyone we pass in the hallways and is really just a big mush. It would make him so happy if you came to see him at Brooklyn ACC!
04/30/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Taffy came in as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was reported that Taffy was loose and wiggly allowing all handling. During SAFER Taffy came into the assessment room very loose and wiggly, he was friendly and affectionate towards the assessor. He allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Taffy joins the game during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Taffy was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Taffy appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels he can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1.
