A Volunteer writes : I love tasty treats so I couldn’t wait to meet Sugar! This petite beauty was sitting so still in her kennel I thought she was a stuffed animal. She politely waited for me to opened the door, was easily looped up and off we went. Once outside this young lady demonstrated she is likely housetrained. We took care of business and then the real fun began. Sugar loves the fresh air and couldn’t wait to see what was around every corner. We sat on the sidewalk and played kissy face for about twenty minutes, much to the delight of the passing motorists. Sugar loves to be held and will wiggle every inch of her tiny frame into your lap, determined to find the best spot for cuddling. She has a nice white coat and the cutest little black spots on her perky ears. I pulled out my treat bag and Sugar was quick to show off her sit. Despite being a little on the thin side, Sugar took her treats like a lady and patiently stayed as I refilled my bag. We started to head back to the care center and I began to wonder how I could possibly bring her back inside. It turns out Sugar was thinking the same thing, and the next fifteen minutes were spent watching the world go by with Sugar in my lap. I practically melted when she nestled her head in my neck and let out a big sigh. Every time I’d ask her if she wanted to go back to her kennel, she’d turn her back to me and put her nose in the air as if to say, just a few more minutes please! This girl is so sweet my teeth hurt!! Come by the care center today and meet Sugar.

Behavior Issues
Sugar has a very strong prey drive towards smaller animals especially cats. Owner stated that she has witnessed her prey on a cat in the best which was strong concern since she has 2 cats of her own. She displays no other signs of behavior issues. She isn’t bothered with having her food bowl touched while eating or having objects or treats taken from her. She enjoys baths and may bark when unfamiliar people approach the yard. Upon intake, Sugar was very friendly and greeted everyone she met. She was loos bodied and allowed herself to be handled, collard and photographed.
For a New Family to Know
Sugar knows the commands sit, down, give paw, come, and stay and up. For exercise she is walks 4-5 times a day. She enjoys playing with rubber and squeaky toys. Owner stated that she does not recommend Sugar have stuffed anything because she ends to rip them apart. When owner is home she tends to follow her around. When left home alone or in the yard alone she is well behaved. During storms/fireworks she barks. She eats dry food only twice a day. She sleeps on the couch or a carpeted floor.
Behavior:
Sugar previously lived with 1 adult and an 8 year child. The owner stated Sugar is relaxed, playful and affectionate around children. The owner mentioned Sugar is house trained, has a high activity level and well behaved when home alone. The owner described Sugar as playful, confident, excitable, affectionate, mellow, independent and friendly. It was reported by the owner Sugar has a very strong prey drive towards smaller animals especially cats, she even witnessed Sugar attack a cat on the street while on a walk giving it severe injuries. In addition, when separated from the cats in the home Sugar attempted to dig a hole in the door to get to the owner’s cats.
At intake it was reported Sugar was very friendly, she allowed all handling. During SAFER Sugar came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, she was friendly and social towards the assessor. She allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Sugar was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Sugar was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Due to the behavior mentioned in the owner’s profile the behavior department believes that Sugar be best to be place with an experience adopter with no other pets in the home.
Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item.
Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft.
Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed.
Toy: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish toy to you.
Dog-dog: Sugar greets the helper dog with a stiff body, hard stare and low growl. Due to this and her past group behavior entries she was muzzled before being introduced to the helper dog. Once the gate was opened, Tabitha did not interact with the other dog because she was mostly concerned with her muzzle.
