03/02/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Handsome Symba is with us as his short-time owner realized that she had no time for a pet…in addtion to having 2 young children. Symba comes with stellar comments, though, the most remarkable being that he should go to a home…with children. That is quite a compliment!! Symba, although a bit on the thin side, has been beautifully cared for. His latte and cream coat is impeccable. He is the picture of health and a friendly character in and out of his kennel. He seems to like other dogs met in the street or in playgroups. He was quite happy yesterday to run and play with an equally energetic female. Symba pulls a little on the leash but is manageable even by me. He is clearly housetrained, comes when called and sits on command. The sight of a ball gets him all excited.. playtime…funtime. Symba likes that. His eyes light up, his jaw drops, he jumps, he can not wait anymore…but he must…or no ball. Symba loves tennis balls. He catches them expertly, even using at times his forelegs to try to intercept them in the air before they fall to the ground. He likes to savour them while laying in the sun. Symba has a tender side too. Do not let him intimidate you by his enthusiasm. He enjoys caresses and sweet talks. Gorgeous Symba is at the Manhattan Care Center, waiting for his new owner or family. He promises to be a top of the line forever best friend! (To watch him with tennis balls, copy-paste this link. https://youtu.be/3dZorTvvb7M )

02/28/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Symba initially engaged in play during his interaction, but over time has become increasingly sexually motivated when interacting with females (he is unaltered). He has not yet been introduced to a male while in our care. The behavior department recommends a pre-adoption interaction for Symba before placement into a home with dogs. While he arrived into our care as an owner surrender, we do not have any previous information pertaining to Symba and his interactions with dogs in the past. When off leash with other dogs, Symba greets politely. He engages in bouts of play with the greeter dog, using his paws often during play. 3/1 update: Symba is sexually motivated and persistantly attempts to mount, ignoring correction. 3/3 update: Symba is forward when greeting, offering sniffs. He postures to mount the female helper. When she offers correction, Symba wanders off, then becomes anxious and paces the yard.
