09/10/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: A real beauty! Her coat could best be described as a metallic peachy-taupe with gray lowlights. She seemed a little nervous and not “that into me” at first. Once we got into the park, she was able to relax and let loose a little more. She said HI to another dog from a distance and seemed very eager to approach. Then she hopped on the park bench and snuggled with me. I knew I was beginning to win her over! She’s proficient at sitting on command and walked reasonably well on leash. I have every right reason to believe she can be the perfect pet! A volunteer writes: Remember the Broadway show named Sylvia about a dog adopted into a family and the fun that ensues afterwards? Here’s our Sylvia, not yet adopted into a family but ready to sign autographs, pose for pictures and look absolutely adorable doing so! Shy for about 10 seconds (yes, Broadway stars can be shy), she seems to be housetrained, is good on leash, shows off her sit and gently takes treats, does the head tilt thing that makes me swoon when I talk to her, and never stops gently wagging her tail. She’s so gorgeous and sweet, and we were having such a good time in the park taking pictures and snuggling (she gives gentle hugs and kisses) we attracted a crowd of admirers who know star quality when they see it! Sylvia wants to meet other dogs we pass on our walk, and on her first off leash play date is bouncy playful with the male greeter and bows to solicit play. A superstar! Sylvia was found tied to a pole and brought to our care by the police, driving loose in their car like the well behaved girl she is. Joining me on the bench for some kisses, her eye contact is soft and sweet. Sweet, gentle, soft and easy, playful and engaging, Sylvia is ready to find a new home in which to star. I’m guessing she won’t have a problem being a co-star either. Ask to meet her today.
09/09/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Sylvia pulls a bit on the leash. She was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up, mouthy (light). Sylvia was excited and mouthy during some of the handling items but had soft body language. She was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. Sylvia was easy to handle when chewing on toys. Sylvia is an active dog she need a significant amount of exercise and mental stimulation. The behavior department feels that she can go to an experience home. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. Her body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) She is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog gently places her open mouth over the Assessor’s hand without applying pressure. Squeeze 2: 2. Dog gently places her open mouth over the Assessor’s hand without applying pressure. Toy: 1. No interest. Playgroup Notes: When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Sylvia engages in bouncy play with the male greeter. She offers bows to solicit. She arrived into our care as a stray, so there is no available history of previous interaction with other dogs, and it is unknown how her behavior around dogs will translate into a home setting. The behavior team feels that Sylvia could potentially be adopted to a home with another dog pending a successful pre adoption interaction.
