10/31/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Wiggle-butt alert! Everyone make some room for sweet, sweet Suzie! (Or sweet, sweet Suzie Q, as I affectionately call her). It’s impossible to spot 2 year-old Suzie in her kennel, greeting you with her very best full-body wiggle, and not break into a smile. And that wiggle has staying power! Down the hall, up the stairs, on a walk to the park, or free in a pen, Suzie continues to shake a tail feather (or tail “fur”) giving Beyonce a serious run for her money. But Suzie is more of an adorable nugget than a voluptuous babe. Like the deliciously sweet Hostess treat of her namesake, Suzie is black, white, and delectable all over. Her ears are wonderfully floppy, perched on her head like two silly triangles. Her smile falls open into an irresistible grin, starring her long, pink, and terrifically goofy tongue. But while most everything about Suzy spells F-U-N, her eyes – brown and full of light – are something different. They are warm, still, and sometimes serious. They are curious, bright, and searching. Looking into Suzie’s eyes one can see long walks in the park, lazy Sunday snoozes, and many a holiday meal spent under a crowded table. Yes Suzie Q’s body may spell “fun” but her eyes, her eyes spell “family.” May the two forever be joined together. And may Suzie forever be home. Suzie is waiting in adoptions at Manhattan’s ACC.

Most recently Suzie has become tense during interactions, is no longer interested in play. The behavior department feels that based on behavior observed in our care, Suzie should be the only resident dog in a home until her behavior around dogs can be thoroughly followed up on outside the care center. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: [10-28-16] During her initial medical examination, Suzie readily allows all handling without issue. ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: Average (suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience) _x_Single-pet home _x_Recommend no dog parks
10/27/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
10/27: Due to arriving as a stray, Suzie’s history with dogs is unknown. When introduced off leash to other dogs at the care center, Suzie initially is tolerant of greeting although a bit reserved. Suzie begins to engage in small bouts of play when solicited, and offers correction when uncomfortable with another dog’s repeated pushy solicitations. 10/28: Suzie engages in rough, running play in larger group of male and female dogs. She offers paw slaps and will solicit dogs to chase her. 10/30: Suzie plays exuberant, running, bouncy play with male and female dogs. 10/31: Suzie solicits running chase play, and runs after while mouthing at all other dogs in the pen. Suzie continues to solicit from dogs who offer correction or attempt to avoid her. When added into a pen with a nervous dog, she immediately runs after the nervous dog, body stiff, growling, and places her mouth over this dog’s neck. 11/1: Suzie engages in running chase play with male dogs. She stiffens and growls greeting a female dog through the fence. 11/2: Suzie is tense, hackles raised throughout interaction and greeting. She remains tense until removed from the pen. 11/4: Suzie bounces around the pen a bit with a male dog but is tense and lip licks throughout the interaction.
