Suri came into the shelter as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. Suri was apprehensive about interacting with the councilor and would pull away when the counselor approached, but when given a couple seconds and with a slow approach Suri allowed counselor to handle for intake. During SAFER Suri was playful and relaxed she had a loose body posture when interacting with the assessor, she allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Suri was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resource portion of the assessment. Suri was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Suri appears to be sociable, and did not display any behavior concerns, so the department feels she can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog might on Assessor once play ends. Squeeze 1 / 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Toy: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish toy to you. Playgroup:When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Suri engages in gentle play with male and female dogs. She shows slight assertive posturing, standing tall and placing her chin on the back of a male puppy, but is able to listen to handler interruptions and continues to play.

According to Suri’s finder, Suri interacted with finder’s dog briefly and they got along fine and were respectful. When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Suri greets male and female dogs displaying loose and wiggly body language. She engages in and solicits gentle play. She shows slight assertiveness, but is able to listen to handler interruptions and continues to play. The Behavior Department recommends that Suri be placed in a home with dogs that match her gentle plat style and that a dog-dog interaction be conducted prior to adoption to ensure compatibility. 9/21: Suri engages in gentle play with male and female dogs. She shows slight assertive posturing, standing tall and placing her chin on the back of a male puppy, but is able to listen to handler interruptions and continues to play. 9/23: Suri greets the male dog displaying neutral body language. She mostly keeps to herself as she explores the pen. As the session continues, Suri begins to display loose and wiggly body language. 9/24: In a group of playful male and female dogs, Suri greets them displaying loose and wiggly body language. She solicits and engages in gentle play. She attempts to mount a dong once, but immediately listens to handler interruptions and continues to play.
