Sunshine doesn’t go on the furniture at home. Sunshine is afraid of getting bathes and having her nails trimmed and will struggle to get away. Sunshine enjoys being brushed and isn’t bothered when being held and restrained. When someone unfamiliar approaches the house Sunshine will bark. 09/25/2017 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Sunshine deserves so well her name. She is one welcoming dog in and out her kennel, her face lit up with a huge smile and glittery eyes. Her little stump of a tail never stops wagging. She so loves company! She is out of her den and on her way to the street in no time. We were told she pulls a lot on the leash but she did walk quite well for me, not forgetting to do her business. Sunshine was never socialized with other dogs and used to bark at them in the street. Here at the care center, she seems overwhelmed by the large amount of her peers, preferring to have them at a distance from her. Maybe this could change in a home environment and with proper introductions? Sunshine looks healthy and has been very well cared for. She could be a little bit more chunky but comes dressed in a lovely coat with pretty markings. Sunshine is all about pleasing her caretaker. She so enjoys to be with a human, sits on command for treats(ever before being asked), hops on the bench for bonding and even rolls on her side for belly rubs. Her smile never leaves her. She is such a pleasure to be with ! Sunshine, owned since puppy hood was left with us because of housing issues. She needs a new home and a new family. Will you open your door and your heart to this sweet gal? Sunshine is at the Manhattan Care Center.

We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct her energy and enthusiasm. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with behaviors outlined below) Potential challenges: _X_On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration: In her previous home, Sunshine was reported to react other dogs on leash, lunging towards them and barking. Sunshine may need positive reinforcement, reward based training to teach her to look at you rather than other dogs and novel stimuli that may startle her. We recommend a front clip harness or head halter to help manage this behavior.
