SAFER – Experienced Home
Suede came into our center as a stray so behaviors in the home are unknown. He was friendly and allowed all handling during his initial medical exam. Staff has reported Suede was very reactive to other dogs while inside his kennel, however through the fence Suede offered play bows, tail wag, and playful vocalizations. Suede pulled very hard on leash for his relief walk. He was friendly and sociable with both handlers upon entering SAFER assessment area. Suede jumped up and licked assessor’s face during Look item. He stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, body soft, tail wagging, open mouth. Suede followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, body soft. He did not pull his paw back on both Squeeze attempts, licking assessor’s hand. Suede showed minimal interest in Toy, sniffing a few times before turning away. He approached helper dog quickly, play bow, tail wag. Due to Suede’s inconsistent behavior in regard to other dogs, the Behavior Team feels he would do best with an Experienced adopter. Suede would benefit from obedience classes to learn leash manners as well as not to jump up.
