I came in the shelter as a OWNER SUR on 11/04/2016 from NY 10473, owner surrender reason stated was MOVE2NYCHA.

11/09/2016 Exam Type CAGE EXAM – Medical Rating is 2 NC – MINOR CONDITIONS NOT CONTAGIOUS, Behavior Rating is EXPERIENCE, Weight 49.1 LBS.
VC: Possible ear infection, red eyes – limited exam prior due to behavior. S) When approaching cage front, dog stiffened and growled with ears back and side stare. Cage exam. O) BAR. Eyes – conjunctival hyperemia but no discharge. NND. R ear – mild erythema and thickening of pinna, but no discharge seen from cage exam. L ear – NSF. A) MIld otitis externa – r/o allergies vs infxn P) Benadryl 25 mg 1 po bid x 5 days. No topical treatment for now – risky due to behavior. Re-check in 3 days – if ear not improved, consider oral abs.

11/04/16 14:09 Streets will bark at strangers when he first meets them and may be a bit shy, this lasts for a couple of minutes. He is good with children and whenever they come over he interacts well with them. He once shared a home with another pit ulol and they got along really well. He has not been around cats. Streets is house trained and does not destroy things in the home. Streets is fine with having his food, toys and treats touched or taken. He is not bothered by being bathed. He will bark at strangers approaching his home or owner. Streets has a mmedium level of energy at home. He likes to follow is owner around the house.He does not pull on the leash and is behaved at home when left alone. He is fed dry pedigree 2 to 3 times a day. Streets is very nervous and pulls away from any attempt to touch or handle him and gives whale eyes, Owner did majority of handling.

Other notes: Will bark at strangers and be a bit shy for the first few minutes. Upon intake Streets was very nervous and pulled away when the counselor attempted to touch him. SAFER ASSESSMENT: 11/7/2016 Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, body neutral Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, lip lick, ears back Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor Squeeze 1: 2. Dog pulls back paw Squeeze 2: 1 Dog gently pulls back his paw Toy 1: No interest. Summary: Streets displayed no concern during his behavior assessment; He may benefit from a slow approach/slow introduction. PLAYGROUP: 11/5: When off leash with a female dog Streets mostly spends his time exploring the yard. He will follow the helper dog around briefly sniffing her but then roams off. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 11/4/16 During his initial medical exam Streets appeared nervous, he allowed most handling but showed teeth and growled when his ear was examined. ENERGY LEVEL: IN-SHELTER OBSERVATIONS: Though observed to be human-social, Streets may need time to warm up to the handler as he may initially present as a fearful dog, avoiding contact, shying away from direct touch. We recommend allowing Streets to interact at his own pace, force-free, rewarding based training is advised when introducing her to new/unfamiliar situations. RECOMMENDATION: Experience (Suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience) _X_No young children (under 5)

Based on observation made on streets while in our care, the behavior department feels that Streets should be allowed time to acclimate in his new environment before follow up with other dogs. 11/5: When off leash with a female dog Streets mostly spends his time exploring the yard. He will follow the helper dog around briefly sniffing her but then roams off. 11/7: Streets is tense and avoids approach.
