Date of initial:: 5/23/2018
Summary:: Calm and allowed all handling.
ENERGY LEVEL:: Storm is reported to have a low energy level in her previous home environment.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: NEW HOPE ONLY
Recommendations:: No cats,Single-pet home,Recommend no dog parks
Recommendations comments:: Storm was surrendered from her first home due to conflict with other dogs in the home, her owner notes that she does not get along well with cats or other dogs. In her second home, Storm broke free from her harness and ran up to a small dog, biting him; she also killed the family’s guinea pig. Further details about the behaviors seen in both homes were not provided, so we cannot be certain of Storm’s behavior with other animals, but out of an abundance of caution we recommend a single-pet home in addition to a home with no small animals.
Potential challenges: : House soiling,Fearful,On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration
Potential challenges comments:: House-soiling: Storm is reported to have a leaky bladder. Further details were not provided. This should be treated as a medical condition first, but we recommend consistent and frequent walks for Storm. Accidents should never be punished.
Fearful: The behavior department recommends allowing Storm to approach her potential new adopters at her own pace. Force-free, reward based training is advised when introducing/exposing Storm to new and unfamiliar situations.
On leash reactivity: In the previous home Storm has been observed to react to other dogs and smaller animals on leash, lunging towards them, barking and growling. Storm may need positive reinforcement, reward based training to teach her to look at you rather than other dogs and novel stimuli that may startle her. We recommend a front clip harness or head halter to help manage this behavior.
