My name is STEEL. My Animal ID # is A1097833.
I am a neutered male gray and white am pit bull ter mix. The shelter thinks I am about 2 YEARS old.

I came in the shelter as a OWNER SUR on 11/25/2016 from NY 11236, owner surrender reason stated was NYCHA BAN.

12/03/2016 Exam Type RE-EXAM – Medical Rating is 3 C – MAJOR CONDITIONS , Behavior Rating is AVERAGE, Weight 68.2 LBS.

12/03/16 CIRDC noted on rounds S/O: BAR. Attention seeking. Eating well EENT: Eyes clear, no ocular discharge, mild nasal discharge H/L: Coughing A: CIRDC P: Rec doxycycline 350mg po q24 x 10 days. Continue to monitor while at BACC. Excellent prognosis

11/25/16 13:34 Steel is a two year old male gray and white American Pitbull terrier. He was surrendered by his owner due to owner residing in a NYCHA residence. Steel was a gift from a neighbor and has been with his owner since he was a few weeks old. Steel has no known medical issues or injuries and was not taken to the vet. Steel has lived with one adult and children ages nine and thirteen. He is described as friendly and outgoing with strangers and will sniff them and jump on them. Around the kids in the home he is described as relaxed and very playful, owner stated he would engage in exuberant play with the kids, the would play tag and chase each other around the home. He has spent time with both large and small breed dogs and was described as relaxed and playful. He would engage in somewhat rough play at first but owner stated after a few minutes he will relax and play more gently. Steel is tolerant around cats and owner stated if the cat would strike at him he would continue walking. Steel is housetrained and was walked four to five times a day. Owner stated for the last few weeks due to the housing issue he was not getting his routine walks and would urinate and defecate indoors daily. He is used to leash walks and pulls very hard on leash. Steel is not bothered when his food is touched while eating or when a treat or toy is taken away. He loves to be brushed and he does not enjoy baths but will allow them. Steel loves to be rubbed and pet. He has a high activity level and loves to play with basketballs and all types of balls. Steel eats wet and dry food Alpo brand and is fed twice a day. Steel has a large appetite and loves popcorn, ground turkey, cornmeal and grits. Upon intake Steel was relaxed and had a wiggly body. He sniffed counselor when approached and allowed scanning (negative). Counselor was able to collar and photograph. He was receptive to treats and took them gently from counselors’ hand.

KNOWN HISTORY: Unaltered, Owner surrender Previously lived with: 1 adult/children (ages 9 and 13 years old) Behavior toward children: Relaxed/Playful Behavior toward dogs: Relaxed/playful Behavior toward cats: Steel is tolerant around cats and owner stated if the cat would strike at him he would continue walking FG/RG: Non reported Bite history: None reported Housetrained: Yes Energy level/descriptors: Steel displays a high activity level in the household. Other notes: SAFER ASSESSMENT: 11/26/16 Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1&2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog smells, then turns away. Summary: Steel was friendly and social towards the assessor, he displayed no behavioral concerns during his assessment. PLAYGROUP: According to Steel’s previous owner, Steel has spent time with both large and small breed dogs and was described as relaxed and playful. He would engage in somewhat rough play at first but owner stated after a few minutes he will relax and play more gently. When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Steel engages in and solicits high energy, bouncy play with male and female dogs. The Behavior Department recommends that Steel be placed in a home with dogs that match his play style. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 11/26/16 During his medical examination, Steel was friendly and allowed all handling. ENERGY LEVEL: Steel displays a high activity level in the care center. RECOMMENDATIONS: Average (Suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience)

11/26/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION

According to Steel’s previous owner, Steel has spent time with both large and small breed dogs and was described as relaxed and playful. He would engage in somewhat rough play at first but owner stated after a few minutes he will relax and play more gently. When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Steel engages in and solicits high energy, bouncy play with male and female dogs. The Behavior Department recommends that Steel be placed in a home with dogs that match his play style. 11/26: Steel displays soft body language when greeting a novel female dog. Once in the pen he initially ignores her and chooses to explore his surroundings. He then engages in short bursts of gentle play, attempting to mount the female but is able to continue to play when the handlers interrupt. 11/29-12/1: In a group of playful male and female dog, Steel engages in and solicits high energy, bouncy play. He displays bouncy body language throughout the interaction.

Medical rating was 1 – NORMAL , behavior rating was NONE
microchip scan negative intact male approximately 2 yrs old BARH EEN: WNL mild dental tartar 68.2lbs; BCS: 3/5 apparently healthy friendly, allowed all handling
