I came in the shelter as a OWNER SUR on 08/04/2016 from NY 10458, owner surrender reason stated was MOVE2PRIVA.

08/04/16 17:01 BASIC INFO Starr A1084169 is a 12 year old chihuahua mix. She has been in the owners family for 12 years. The present owner took over ownership when both parents died within the last 3 years. Starr does not have any health concerns. SOCIALIZATION Starr is very fearful with strangers, as owner stated that they never had much company come over. Starr has never lived with young children. she plays gentle with the adult who was caring for her. Starr has never lived with another animal. Starr has never bitten anyone. BEHAVIOR Starr does not allow you to take away her food, bowl, water bowl, or toy away. If an unfamiliar approaches the owner or the doorway, she barks. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Beba is best described as friendly, affectionate and independent. She has a low activity level as she is an older pet. She has been kept mostly indoors. Starr eats any brand of dry food. Starr is wee wee pad trained. when left alone, she is well behaved. for exercise she is walked on the leash. BEHAVIOR DURING INTAKE Beba was nervous upon intake.

Starr was fearful and repeatedly attempted to get away from the handler during the assessment. She became uncomfortable during the handling raising her lips and snap at the assessor hand. the behavior team decided to skip the handling part of the assessment for safety reasons. During the resources Starr was not interested in toys. Starr was surrender to us. According to her previous owner Starr is very fearful with strangers, as owner stated that they never had much company come over. Starr has never lived with young children. she plays gentle with the adult who was caring for her. Starr has never lived with another animal. Starr does not allow you to take away her food, bowl, water bowl, or toy away”. The behavior department feels that she would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home. Playgroup notes: When off leash with other dogs Starr sniffs when approached, eventually soliciting a bit of play. She offers correction when mounted.
