SAFE 07/07/16 **AMAZING AVERAGE RATING – ON PUBLIC LIST** STELLAR AVERAGE RATING! If you have the misfortune to be a stray in NYC, you don’t stand much of a chance, even if you are a super star like STAR. She came into the shelter on 6/24 healthy and happy and barely out of puppyhood at only about a year and a half old. She aced her SAFER like the super star that she is, played nicely with other dogs and loved everyone she met. It didn’t take long for Star to catch the shelter cold in the unsanitary shelter conditions and that is all it took for Star to earn a spot on tonight’s list. Please advocate mightily for Star tonight and help her find a new family before noon tomorrow. She is available for public adoption. Don’t let her life end before it has barely begun.

Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Star came into the shelter as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. During intake it was reported Star allowed all handling. During SAFER Star had a loose body posture when interacting with the assessor, she allowed all handling items to be done without issue. Star was relaxed during the tag interaction and the resource portion of the assessment, she was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Star appears to be sociable, and did not display any behavior concerns, so the department feels she can be suitable for an average adopter. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1:1 Dog gently pulls back paw Squeeze 2: 1 Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Dog-Dog: Star interacted with both male and female juveniles today and greeted them softly but mostly avoided interacting.
